I am going to be random and guess it to be either a pencil or a pen. No real explanation for that, I just guess it makes sense with writing a speech (because often pencils are used for that), and when the speech is done, the pencil is put down = "without life"... The finger, well, I do not really know, besides, ballpoint pens can have the.... I cannot explain at this time at night...

he can't die, he didn't have any life to begin with since he's a ghost
