Hey, I looked it up, and I didn't see any other topics on this subject, so sorry if it's been suggested.

So here's my idea: AG should start using IP bans.

So I was wondering, why does AG not support IP bans? Legal reasons? Or has it just not been implemented?

Because, the way I see it, someone does something wrong and &quotermaban (quotes because they can be circumvented [and they have been. Multiple times.])", someone loses their privileges on this site, and someone gets no second chance. But that's not the case. Banned users just make a new account and come back. So is there even a point to the permaban? Really?

Quite frankly, I don't see what harm it could do, so if someone could either shed some light on the subject or implement this idea, then I'll be happy.

So... that's all. Discuss?

While that may be true, take into account special cases. Where users blatantly admit that they are, in fact, a second account. I recognize that may not be the case for every second account, but let's say we do find out. Wouldn't an IP ban be of great help in such a situation?

Sorry for DP, but for that matter, when it is just found out through other circumstances that they're an alt account.

Why? Armorgames doesn't have that big of a problem with trolls and spammers. They make a couple of accounts, but then they realize they are wasting time spamming a flash game site's forums.

I think it is a good idea. There is one guy running amok, and he may be funny, but he was permibanned and has made 20, if not more alts. Believe it or not, it can be very easy to tell when someone is an alt. There have been many cases where a permiban would have fixed the problem.

A good idea, however i don't think it's needed. As BluesBros said, there is much of a current problem with trolls and spammers ('cept 420).

However, if in the future, problems do arise, it would be a promising idea. The idea of permabanning only truly affects high profile users, who have lots of Ap.

That would be useful I'm sure, even if they don't need to use it much. At least it would stop the 420 guy, and anyone else in the future who comes along. It's definitely not something that will hurt the site.

First of all, for legal reasons.
Second because of proxies.

Zophia has been frustrated because of the -420 guy, because he keeps showing up being annoying and breaking the rules, but she can do nothing but ban him, and delete the posts, and that is pretty much just frustration and not helping anything but get that guy to post threads about her, trying to be mean or something.
Still, the staff will not allow the ip bans.

Can I have specifics as to why, if there are any? Or if I'm allowed to?

Sounds like all we can do at the moment, but I somehow doubt he will. Face it, AG is an easy target for trolling.

Even if we rarely get any. :P It's just when we do get a successful one, they pretty much wreak utter havoc.

IP bans are not accurate enough, for instance, a friend of mine made another account on my computer and he got banned for creating another account.

I freaking fail. Dammit,

Lol we've all done that from time to time, it's no problem.

a friend of mine made another account on my computer and he got banned for creating another account.

Why did he get banned? Was he misusing the account or what? Because as long as he wasn't causing trouble it shouldn't have been a big deal.

That was me, forgetting to freaking log out.

Didn't know you helped to run SHOPS. Well... now I do. >

Just sounds like an unfortunate coincidence to me... I'm all for my idea (obviously. :P), but I do think we should use it sparingly, ony when someone does something ABSOLUTELY permaban worthy (art thief, porn, intense flaming or racist comments, etc...).

I mentioned it in the top of the post.
Legal reasons, presumably if the banned IP is to be used by others, that has not done anything.
Proxies, because people can and will do it, if they are determined enough to be annoying.

The problem is that proxy servers can be used to bypass an IP ban unless the site being accessed has an effective anti-proxy script.
