I'm a recent convert to ArmorGames, and I'm enjoying the ability to rate games and save my favorites to my profile. However, there are so many games on this site that sifting through them to find the ones I want to play is difficult - adding all the games I liked to my "favorites" still results in a huge number of games.
Currently, I can see games in each genre sorted by total plays, overall rating, or date posted. This searching/sorting capability could be greatly improved if I could use more personal criteria; e.g. if I could search/sort based on my personal rating for a game. That would help me keep track of games that I enjoyed on a finer resolution than favorite/not favorite. It would also help me keep track of games I haven't played yet - if I rate each game as I play it, then it would be easy to find games I haven't played yet.
Although you could get the same effect with favoriting, but that was already covered. Favorites are more or less intended to be your favorites though, not what games you like or are slightly partial to.
Still a good idea.
has Site optimization been completed?????
That's a negatory. They would have announced it. I myself am starting to wonder whether or not they are even doing it anymore.
Yeah, I can understand that that would take a lot of time. Maybe it would be easier to just keep track of games that I have or haven't rated yet? Mostly I'm just interested in "getting around" the site and playing a lot of the great games that have been on here for some time. I know that I can search for what the community considers "good" games by sorting by community rank, but my tastes tend to differ from the community...
Does it ever end? We have no clue (And for all we know, the Armorgames coders may not know either, as they might wake up in the middle of the night and shriek 'Eureka!' and edit the site code).
It would be awesome if we could organize games by our own ratings. It would really show what games we like and strongly dislike. And come to think of it, I think the coding might take some time, but not a lot of space, so nothing against it! We should wait and see.
Okay, how about an enhancement to the random game feature - make it pick a random game I haven't rated - that would encourage people to play games they haven't seen, and assist those of us who are trying to find games they haven't played.
I would go for that, however... How would the system determine if you played that game or not? By the ratings? That would be pretty easy for people to just rate a game and refresh the site to pick up a different game to just rate again. Maybe when you add a play point to the number of plays that the game has? Maybe then it would record that you legitimately played that game?
I like your idea though, that's probably the only thing that's wrong with the idea. That's okay though. Everything has a downside to it, and there are downsides to features that we currently already have that should have been changed a long time ago.
I can see that if people were just using a feature like this to rate games and get AP, there would be problems... but if you put a limit on how frequently you could do a search like this, it would both discourage AP farming and reduce the load on the server while still allowing individuals to find games they haven't played.
