It is said that the Sun will go Supernova but long before that it will go Red Giant which will make it expand and eventually engulf the earth.

But long before that the Earth might run short on precious materials like iron, copper, bronze, titanium, gold, silver, food, lumber, water, etc. So the Earth might be divided into different factions which will fight for survival.

It's just a theory of mine but there might be other ways that the Earth might end like a giant meteor crashing into the earth... a new kind of deadly virus... etc.

Honestly?

I think the world will end, because we either A: Get too smart, and the other races in the universe think we will become a threat, and eliminate us. or B: Has we the human populace use up all our resources, we will eventually become unable to support our daily life routine, and die from starvation/dehydration.

While this is all, very far into the future, it may happen.

i dont see a reason why life on earth or the earth itself shall cease to exist if we ran out of iron, copper, titanium or gold.

if we ran out of food and or water, then certainly mankind may cease to exist, but earth as an planet and certain smaller lifeforms, will do pretty well and still exist. after a while it could all regenerate and exist without humans.

the only possibility that earth ceases to exist is, that is going to be physically destroyed, like the sun going supernova scenario, which i belive is the most probable one

Well, yes. You've just said what I wanted to say. but it is scientific theory, hypothesis that the earth will be swallowed by the supernova, commonly known as the red giant.

And I don't want to hear any of you nut-jobs say that the earth will be destroyed on 2012 Dec. 21st without giving some other more reasonable opinion.

well on december 21 2012 the sun could go supernova and destroy the earth.

but i take any bet it is not going to happen.

Our sun is to small to cause a supernova but the sun is expanding at a very slow rate . As the sun's energy burns out the sun expands and becomes all redder and redder so in that process the earth will probably end in a scorched wasteland and not to long after that the surface of the earth will begin to melt and Earth will become like Mercury . That I saw on TV ; Discovery channel

Earth will be consumed by the sun in due time. And when it happens, all of humanity will be watching as the gray, inhabitable planet of mistakes gets consumed to a fiery demise, from the safe distance of extraterrestrial colonies.

I also just remembered that I watch one time on T.V. that there is another galaxy on a crash course headed to ours. I guess in that scenario even extraterrestrial colonies may not save us...

did you know theres a supervolcano under yellowstone perk? and if it erupted it would spray up so much dust to blosck out the sun (not to metion all the hot magma). i know it wouldn't be the end of physical earth but it would be the end of us.

In 5 million years, the Sun will become a Red Giant and touch the Earth.

I think it will all end as we one day all die from a virus. If there was a nuclear war, unless we all simultanious pulled the keys I think there would be survivors. That also goes with many other things like a meteor strike or an alien invasion. But if a virus makes its way to all of us.... dead. Either that or a scientific phenomenon like a black hole consuming the earth or a super solar flare.

Our sun is not massive enough to go supernova. And besides, in the life cycle of any star, it would be a red giant before it goes supernova.

In 5 million years, the Sun will become a Red Giant and touch the Earth.

More like 4 - 5 billion years. Our sun is about 4.5 billion years old and is about halfway through it's main cycle.

Let's get philosophical here, though. What does it mean for the earth to end? Do we mean the actual physical matter of the planet? Or simply its capacity to sustain life? Or perhaps just its capacity to sustain human life?

Other events will either definitely or most likely occur before the sun goes all red giant on us. But if annihilation of the matter of this planet is our definition, then I think this is the only event that could cause that.
There are some certain events that might spell certain destruction for humanity, though. For example, the moon is moving a few centimeters away from the Earth each year. Over time, this could cause catastrophic tidal changes and surges that might have a domino effect for life on this planet (I'm not sure of the time frame for this event, though).
Of course, the Earth has been pummeled in the past by celestial objects and it really is just a matter of time before a big one slams into us. While this isn't certain, it is highly probable - and perhaps the closest event that will occur.

So what do we mean by the end of Earth? Until that question is answered, the question of how it will end can't really be answered.

On a side note I feel that we are all in agreement that the earth will be consume by the very thing that brings us life for the most part, I think it would seem fit if we switched this around to how will life on earth end, or more specifically, how will human life end on earth?
