Most of you will say this goes in the Popular Media, but I don't.

If you have ever read the book, tell me what you think of it.

I am studying it right now in school and I think it was so sad.

it is not only the facts or story that makes a book sad, but also the way of describing events.
in fact in a novel this is the main part how the author creates feelings the reader gets from reading it.

and i would say that this is a fictional book it can create another approach to a theme that seems obvious and well known. but its not a scientific approach but one on a personal and emotional level.

How weird. My teacher, Mr. Carpenter, just gave us this book to read.

Anyway, I'm about a fourth of the way done. So far, it's really good. Very emotional.

So if it has no place on the political level, and is purely trying to create its themes through emotion, it should not be in this forum, but in popular media.

Maus is much better. Best Holocaust book I've ever read.

This is such a great book. The part when the one Jewish prisoner plays that last song by Beethoven almost made me cry.

I'm a big Maus fan too. I think the Holocaust is best taught by a first hand account. The emotion makes it more relevant that way.

A great first-hand account is Eichmann's Inferno. It's about a Jewish doctor at Auschwitz who eventually helps Dr. Mengele out with dissections. It is one disturbing book though. Even more so than other Holocaust books.

The book is sad but, mostly miraculous. I mean it is crazy that he even survived.

Never read Maus, though I've read Night because for English class last year >_>. It was very good on a sense of letting you know what it was all like being there and how hard it was to survive. I found it interesting how he managed to live through it all, and how he was able to get away with some things like the whole crown part at the end, very very lucky.

The part when the one Jewish prisoner plays that last song by Beethoven almost made me cry.

I liked that part too =). Though I didn't cry.

i am not saying that it is purely fictional and without any political theme. it clearly has.
but it is not a simple recalling of known facts like in a history book, but it adds emotions and a much more personal perspective.
its main purpose is to share experiences made during that time.

I propose the discussion of non-fiction books in this topic. Like King Leopold's Ghost, now the Congo was a tragedy...

I don't want to know that you had to read it. What did you think of it?

It's a good read. Poor Elie... Infected cut on his foot, forced to walk through snow or something. Been 3 years since I read it so I can't remember much.

Yes. His foot actually fell off in the snow.
