[quote]Free speech should be limited sometimes when it becomes hateful.
It would be quite oppressive to punish people for expressing their disagreement, even if they're saying something that most of society wouldn't find is "moral".
But it seems like politicans cant say anthing at all. If they say something wrong, they are forced to resign or give a public apology.
You can thank political parties for that. Only there to bash the other side, and distract from the fact that the government doesn't genuinely care about its people.
Nazi Parades (yes they do exist).
I don't see what's wrong with Nazi Parades, as long as they aren't hurting anyone. Just because their views aren't shared by the rest of society and they're considered extreme, doesn't mean they're evil. Also, if Nazi's are banned from gathering, what's to stop other (more socially accepted) groups from being banned as well?
No, its not. You can sue anyone over anything they say. Clearly, thats not freedom of speech.
Just because you sue doesn't mean you'll win. I could sue you for disrupting certain threads, but they'll throw my case out because of its insignificance.
Most countries have it to a certain extent (Eg: No Rascism Etc) America is the only place where it is completely allowed.
The US is not the only place with free speech. Seriously, get off your high horses Americans. This study measures freedom of speech. The US has never made it into the top 10. They are 36th in the world right now.

Hmmmm...The US is right behind Taiwan =P
But Freedom of the press is not necessarily freedom of speech. I would view it more as freedom of information.
Free speech is the right to voice your opinion in a polite and well thought out way that doesn't involve things like name calling. Saying someone is a skank is not a freedom.
It's pretty simple, it's called freedom of speech because it sounds nice. But in reality freedom of speech would be horrible.
So no, free speech isn't real. But freedom of speech is.
Its not in my history classes, apparently some things cant be said or discussed
In school some of your rights are limited, and is it a matter of the teacher just not wanting to get off topic, or is he threatening to punish you for discussing something?

sort of...one of my teachers name is mr. Ainge (His son plays in the nfl, was qb for tennesee volunteers) And in his class, its not even history. Its more of his opinion, teaching that jesus was a coward when he went to the garden of gesename, which really made a lot of people mad. You sort of get yelled at for disagreeing with him
[quote]That reminds me of the craziest sub ever in my German class. In the class, we all have German names that we are referred to, instead of using our American names. Thats good to know to understand the story fully. She freaked out the whole period, yelling over small things and talking about disrespect. And than, one of my friends threw a paper balls at my head while I wasn't paying attention, and I made a sort of "Wha?" sound. The sub yelled at me to go to the principles office and asked my name repeatedly. When I told her my real name, she said "No, your name is Gottfried (my German name)! Stop lying!", and she did that for about five minutes before understanding German names, and than she yelled at me about how "this is not a game, you tell me your name when I ask you". The whole time, she was yelling at me to stop packing up and just go to the office for the rest of the period, which is retarded. At the end of class, before I left the office, I saw a few people from the class come down to the office to report the teacher for being a *****, to add to what I said. The sub got banned from the school. It was awesome.[quote]
