Internet companys like verizon and comcast want to lower the standard of broadband speed even tho the US is currently ranked 19th in the world in internet speed. What are your thoughts?
It costs money to make Broadband speed faster. If they can stop the government from setting certain speed standards, it means they have to spend less money. Yet another example of Corporate Capitalism.
It's the whole "use electricity to expend waves to every citizen that is a member of that company so they can use the internet" thing. I don't exactly know how much money keeping a constant rate of waves going, but if the government is regulating it, then it must cost a lot.
If you complain just make your own internet company.
I don't have the money, or the knowledge to create my own internet company. I should be able to trust the people who have the ability to treat me, as a customer, fairly.
Why the internet costs money to begin with is beyond me, sadly.
Someone in the beginning knew that they could make huge money from it.

Keeping internet servers up is expensive. Then you need technicians to keep the servers up, develop and maintain technology. Then there are repairmen needed to fix telephone wires and connection problems in the home. They also need customer support and salespeople. Etc. Providing internet is expensive.
For example, last year, Comcast took in 30.8 billion dollars. But their total revenue was 2.5 billion dollars. That means they spent 28.3 billion dollars on salaries, development, service, repair, maintaining servers, property costs, bills, etc. So they spend 85% of the money that comes in.
