im 1 1. most of the games i play are M. sometimes AO. it depends on the child. i mean, i play REALLY violent games and thats fine with my parents because they know that im smart enough to know that its just a game. i mean, you dont see me walking around killing everyone.--Well... it has a few sex scenes where you can actually see the tits and stuff.
This is EXACTLY why the age is what it is. If you let a 10 year old buy games like RDR or GTA without any restrictions they'll think that the word "tits" isn't going to get them slapped across the face in the real world
I think the age limit is fine, it's only there so people under that age can't go and get as many of these games as they want. Personally, I never had a problem playing M games at 14, but M stands for Mature, and the majority of 14 year olds (in the eyes of someone 18+) aren't mature. If someone buys it for them, then I guess they know that they can handle whatever is in it.
It's the people that continue to buy the games for kids that are taking the themes in a negative way (being violent, swearing, etc.) that keep this limit where it is
I dont really think there is an age for M rated games,It depends how protective your parents are, from my perspective,I could play grand theft auto when I was 11,and my parents where completely fine with it.
I'm pretty much the same story as Snipershot325 above me, except I don't play GTA :P
Censorship is waaaaay too powerful right now.
Y'know how it's not legal (in the U.S) for kids to have sex until they're 18 years of age? Their bodies tell them otherwise at around 9-13. This is a good example of censorship interfering with something that is natural. I apply that logic to all forms of censorship.
I think Powuhas just demonstrated to us when playing M games at 11 can be a bad thing. Would your mom approve of you using that word? I'm sure a mod won't [/Troll]
Well the answer to the question depends. Are you a psychopath or not?
The age rating is just to stop people buying a game, not playing it, ultimately your parents decide if you're allowed to play the game or not, since they will be buying it for you, nobody will knock on your door and check up on you to see if you're old enough to play it or not.
I played GTA: Vice City when I was 10-ish My parents knew they were games too so they just let me play them if I wanted to.
Not like I'm gonna go out pretending I'm a GTA character and chainsawing random guys and taking spinning money that lands around them to buy myself a gun, unless you have serious psychological problems I'm sure you can separate the virtual world from reality..
Anyway, don't games keep kids (teenagers) away from real drugs and crime too by keeping them in the house and not bored on the streets?
they make ratings like that so 11 year old don't go around dropping f bombs, trying to get laid, or trying to get in fights. 11 year olds see something they think is cool and they try to do it too
Play whatever game whenever you want damn 12 your getting yo sexual stuff and fricking puberty lessons and usually kids know about it WAAAAY before i played those games at 5 and 6 years old
they make ratings like that so 11 year old don't go around dropping f bombs, trying to get laid, or trying to get in fights. 11 year olds see something they think is cool and they try to do it too
Then that's their choice, if they choose to copy what they see then they will learn the hard way, a fight at 11 is, after all, not a big deal. Games don't manipulate people to do things, people do it on their own free will, just because you're a kid doesn't mean you don't have a concept of right and wrong, swearing is going to be learnt somewhere along life, you can't keep children away from it forever.. and that's where parents come in, they can choose to buy the game or not, and teach their kids about swearing, sex etc at a young age so they understand, hiding them from it just makes them more curious to try it out and see what it's like, swearing is fine as long as it's not day in day out, and you don't integrate it into your daily vocabulary, in my opinion..
The age should vary depending on how the player, and the player's parents feel about the player's exposure to things such as intense violence, strong language, and sexual themes of any level. If I was to pick an age and stick with it, I would say 13 years old is when kids should be allowed by their parents to start playing mild rated M games.
I played m games when I was like 10 its fine most kids can hand gore( Okay so maybe gears of war gore might be a little bad for a 9 year old) and language( ever try watching tv now a days?) but I could see if there is mass nudity then I can see waiting till your older( not like RDR that's one 10 second seen with boobs)
Literally I'd rather a kid be playing a bloody shooting game like COD than a dark scary horror game( I don't know one) horror has more effect than violence
