So, its been one day since my appendectomy, so I go out of my house, to get some fresh air. I walk out, and my freaking neighbor comes up to me, and say's "So, your friends told me you got appendicitis, you know, if you believed in god, he wouldn't of given you such a thing." I just laugh and say, "I don't need to believe in a imaginary thing." the dude get's all pissed and goes, "Ya know, you are going to go straight to hell, you don't believe in god?! You are the most ignorant person I have ever met.", after he said that I just laughed it off and said, "Um, ya know, it doesn't really count, if the only people you talk to are church goers." then he get's all pissed, and starts reciting verses from the bible, and I just go, "Shut the hell up. Don't get all butt hurt because I don't believe in him, you can go ahead and believe in him, I ain't doing anything to offend you." and the dude goes, "I am not trying to offend you, I am just trying to save a pathetic soul!" which gets me a tiny bit pissed, and I just shrug it off, and go, "Sorry, but my 'Pathetic Soul' doesn't need saving by an imaginary being." and then he just gets all pissed, and I just walk back inside...

Was I being an ass to him or something? I don't think I did/say anything to offend him.

I mean, you totally didn't just discredit all his beliefs and tell him he's about as smart as a kindergartner or anything.

He's imaginary, so it doesn't matter. If you really want to save your soul you better join the church of the flying spaghetti monster though.

No screw him, if he knew you didn't believe in god then he should respect your beliefs.

Honestly if I'd been in your position I would have sent him off to quit bugging me and try and push his beliefs on someone else.

Alright, honestly, I think you were both kind of jerks(no offense). Here's why:

Him:
1. Tried to force his beliefs on you
2. Was easily angered when you replied

You:
1. Insulted what he believes in
2. Insulted him

So I think you both just kind of need to take a step back and cool off, yeah?
P.S.- Feeling any better after your appendicitis?

Kinda mean to say imaginary, but still he doesn't have the right to say that to you.

it was kind of mean for you to insult what he believes in, but he shouldn't have forced his religion on you.

Well I believe it was both of you, and both of you could of handled it better. You shouldnt of said "Imaginary" or insulted his beliefs or him, therefore provoking him, but he also shouldnt of tried to convince you into Christianity when you obviously didnt want to and be provoked into calling you pathetic.

To answer the question, yes you definitely insulted and offended him.

So, Christians don't get appendicitis? Last time I checked, Christians and Atheists don't differ that much in terms of healthy/good lives.
