Well, welcome everyone...to this little project I have been thinking up for a while.
So, as you may have read from the title, this is a judging contest, so basically, your job is to judge the supplied pictures and then I will judge your judgings...if that makes sense.
I don't really know the point of this, but it seems like a bit of fun...and this way you can all try your hand out at judging.
How to set your judging out:
In short, the main set up is up to you, but so we don't have pages filled with the same images instead of posting the images, just write the name and nubmer of the picture.
The name will be the username of whoever submitted it, and the number will be the number that is given with it.
Feel free to use your own images in your judging, and other peoples images as long as you are asking for permission and not breaking any copyrite laws.
The Rules:
1. No flaming, trolling, insults, racist slurs or anything of the sort in this thread or in your judging. If I find an entry to be too mean, then it will be disqualified.
2. No being to critical on the pictures...the people who drew them did so out of fun (as most will be sourced from my Sector A thread (so make sure you all keep that in your commonly visited threads)...
3. Don't make it too looong...please...
4. Get it finished on time...because even though you are all judging, it doesn't mean that you can be slack. That's my job.
I think thats all the rules...
What now?
I will post this rounds pictures really soon, which are aliens from the Sector A thread, so lets all wait and see.
Oh, by the way. This is my 3000th Forum Post. Yay. Time for the commorative animated sig!
Theme: Aliens Deadline: Friday 26th September Model for Pictures:...the creatures were tall and green with several eyes attached to the face that was in their torso...with a huge gaping mouth with sharp teeth stained crimson...and long spiny arms with long claws...many waving tentacles on its back each with a sharp barb on the end...strong muscular legs... (Sector A: Part 1)
Very creative, It looks a lot like how I would imagine Aliens to be, though, I am a tad puzzled, is that a nose I see on top of its head? And what is the deal with the three eye's in, what I think to be the neck? Besides those two complaints, I like the overall look of the alien, and it's tentacles, while not as plentiful as I would of guessed, looks good.
7/10 1 for Tenticles 4 for creativity 2 for looks -2 for nose on head -1 for eye balls on supposed neck
Yes! The long time come, judging of this weeks theme... Aliens! Let's get to it.
First Place - #6. Bronze
Ahh, Yes, THis brings back some good ol' dreams of fighting aliens. I like how it was pencil drawn, very good. The eyes, it looks like it's bending it's head back to reveal it eyes on the neck, and then have the chest cavity open up with a mouth and everything. Although, the tentacles did look a little stale. Very great job, and congratz on first place. YOu get to pick the next theme.
Second Place - #2. Strop
*cowers in fear* Whha what? Ohh yeah. *striaghtens shirt* So, this is the bes monster I have ever seen. Missing 1st place by just a tentacle. It really does look like something I found in my closet last year. Although, it does look like it trying to display it's genitalia at us. I fell that the blurry messiness only added to the awesomeness of the picture. Congratualations! YOu won the "Don't worry, you only lost" Prize!
Third Place - #5. THoadthToad
*zoooooooooms out*
You really have to zoom out to take full effect of this drawing. Which Thoad, is very great. Your creative capacity never cease to amaze me. And thus your magnificent creature placed third, barely behind second. Some color would have been nice though.
Yes, those are the placings, although, I'll say that this is has been one of the most toughest rounds judging.
----------------------------
Other Awards
----------------------------
The "High" Award - #1. Zega
Wow. Next time, don't give your monster happy pills before drawing it!
The Lolwhut Award - #3. Goumas
Lolwhut? It looks like, I don't really know. Some purple monster dancing on the dock. Like I said to Zega, don't give your monster happy pills before drawing it.
The "By a Hair" Award - #4. Barn_100
Ahh, shuckles. This is a pretty good drawing, missed thir place "By a Hiar" Some color might have helped it.
And thus the judging has ended.
Next Theme[/]: To be decided by Bronze [b]End Date: Septmeber 20 A week from now
First Place: #2 Strop: I loved the drawing! It has a real good foreign look to it. I love the tongue and the head/neck colors, they really go with the rest of the alien. Also, very imaginative, I could very much imagine this creature wondering around the deep depths of his planet. And very interesting and original portrayal. Not like the little puny green alien you usually see.
Second Place: #6 Bronze
Very nice drawing. I could tell that you spent a decent amount of time on it because I could see the "creative pencil smudge" on your drawing! Anyway, enough of Mr. Nice Guy... it's time for... THE CRITIC *smoke around my ankles, blood on my hands, fire behind me* Well, not a very original portrayal, it just looks like the typical alien. The tentacles were a little odd for me, it looked like you were fed up with drawing, and you just wanted to get it done, so you quickly drew squigglys and a spike at the end. But other than that the drawing was really great! I love how the arms looked. And the little sackish thing in his chest (what's it called...) Overall, nice job!
Third Place: #5 ThoadtheToad OHEMGEE A HUUUGE ALIEN!!! Yeah, sorry to bust on ya, but it was really hard to judge with it being that big. Lets get on with the judging shall we? Once again, it lacks originality, kinda looks like the alien from AVP. I liked the overall look of the alien. Four legs, lots of tentacles. And wait... does it only have one arm? The alien lacked detail. But I really liked the curves in the tentacles, and the main eye in the chest, and then all the other little eyes. Very creative! Overall good alien.
HM 1: #4 Barn_100 I can see many improvements that can be made to this drawing. Try to "open it up". Like when the legs and the body connect, try to erase that line in between so that the drawing "flows". Also I was taught when I was little, that when your drawing, you want to fill up the whole page. Make your alien bigger (but not as big as Thoads) Also, put in key the main 3 element when drawing: "Detail," "Perspective," and "Patience" DPP! If you do that then your drawing will be great.
HM 2: #1 Zega Yeah, give your alien a chill pill.
HM 3: #3 Goumas13 It looks like you weren't patient with this. Or serious.
1st: #2 Strop's. No, it isn't perfect: joints and connections are very hard to discern, very sketchy lines, and it is colored but an obvious very quick job. Even though this isn't one of your best efforts, it still manages to surpass the others. 2nd: #5 Thoad's. Figli is a pretty cool idea and it can't be mistaken for what it is. On the negative side the lines are very sketchy, the third leg looks like it is coming out of a bum instead of being externally attached to the body, and the middle leg is coming inward (like a V) and the other two are speading out like tree trunks, if that was intentional sorry. Good drawing nonetheless. 3rd: #4 Barn_100's. It didn't out do the others by much but I gave the edge to this one because it has a more menacing look. The body looks like a bean and has very stubby legs, so I imagine that it isn't very agile. The tentacles look to stiff, a little more movement to them would help.
The_Rest:
Zega's: #1 The biggest problem with this that I have is that I know you can do a lot better, you didn't even shade! Part of the its right arm is out of the picture and the legs look like mutated stumps. It is a green alien atleast. Goumas's: #3 It is very silly, and I think that was the point. Strange background and the floor looks like a fence because of the lack of prespective. Is it even an alien? Might just be a guy in a suit.
Mine: #6 Maybe 5 minutes of drawing, I drew everything according to the specifications of KR's description. I'm not happy with the tentacles, I could do better and I just rushed it.
(Sorry if I came off mean, I did it like if it was the ASC. So I do realize that these where just for fun.)
1st place: Strop Very well drawn, it looks as if you spent a long time on it. I almost don't want to criticize it. Even thought there are small faults when you look at specific parts, the overall picture makes up for it. The colouring seems to be the only part on which you rushed a little bit. The head looks very nice, and the way you coloured it gave it a nice feeling, however, the body and arms/tentacles bleed out into the background to much in my opinion. The claws are all different sizes, and look rather they they're falling off. This makes his arms look very unreal compared to the head. Lastly, using brown on all of his body made it hard to distinguish where and what everything was.
2nd place: Bronze (creativity award) You missed first place by a slice of Swiss cheese, you were so close. It your drawing were coloured, or had Strop's not been it would have added enough extra detail for you to be 1st.
The "mouth" is very detailed, and it looked almost as if it would reach out and swallow me whole. The tentacles, though, look very rushed compared to the rest of it. The arms are very unique, and definitely not what I would have thought of after reading the description. The creativity really helps the drawing look better. To me, it looks as if it were transforming into an alien from a human, because of it's basic shape. Another thing, though, the spaces left blank sort of stand out. This would be fixed if you had coloured it. Or maybe not. Whenever I draw something good, I always go and totally screw it up by colouring it (badly).
3rd place: Thoad Though I dislike this style of drawing, I admit it is very good. You could have added some more detail on the legs, head and tentacles though, but it is still good the way it is. Also, I just want to point out that when I saw the smaller eyes on his chest, the first thing that popped into my mind was "olives". The only real big thing that bugs me is the tentacles. The (claws?) on the end of them have the same problem as strop's. They don't look attached. Maybe it would look better if I could see the whole thing without scrolling up or down.
And, just wondering, why Green?
4th place: Barn It sort of reminds me of Monster's Inc. And that's not a bad thing. It really separates it from the other pictures in that way. You could have made it better though, because it looks very stiff and the tentacles look very unproportionate compared to his round finger puppet look. It might have looked better if they were thinner or longer.
5th place: Zega (Happy pill award) Wtf? All the eyes are facing different directions, he's got no bottom teeth and it looks like his lower lip just melted away from the upper. And that's just his head. His legs look like Teenage mutant ninja turtles, and one thigh is twice as big as the other. The same with one hand's claws and the other.
All in all though, it still looks better than the stuff I can do. And did you use paint? `Cause if you did, it's even better. Paint's a bitch.
6th place: Goumas (illiteracy award) I don't know if I'm supposed to judge based on this but... You know there was a description, right?
And that's it. Kudos to KingRyan for thinking up such a great idea. And sorry if I offend anyone, I'm going for a Simon style judging.
first place: #2 strop I have no idea what it is but I love it and I believe it deserves first place! it falls under the abstract category it looks like. but I have nothing against abstract art! strop you have serious potential! use it to the fullest!
second place: #5 thoadthetoad again, I have no idea what it is. but I still love it! its very similar to strops but the coloring isnt very creative. if you had used a better color scheme, you could very well have beaten strop. but its only an outline. still, its a very good one, but it doesnt get the award.
third place: #6 bronze this is incredible artwork. however it looks too much like a doodle to me. again, if it had had a real color scheme, Id judge it higher, but it looks like you just did this in 10 minutes with a number 2 pencil. its great, but it needs more color.
honorable mention: #4 barn_100 its great artwork, but the lines are rather obscure. if you notice, it doesnt have the realistc feel that bronzes and strops have. if it were more realistic and had a color scheme, it would have been judged higher.
the "ut more thought into your backgrounds" award: #1 zega youre obviously using a computer paint program. is grey really the best choice? the alien is a bit unoriginal as well.
the "not quite" award: #3 goumas13 this award is rather self explanatory. it doesnt quite look alien, but it doesnt look quite human. and it isnt a very convincing alien. it looks like hes just dancing in midair next to a fence. that doesnt quite make sense.
the "great judge" award: floydtc great job judging! ive never seen anyone judge 6 pictures of aliens better than you just did! congratulations!
