Well I know alot of Germans in my school, and I go to them, and ask them "Can you speak German?" then they go "ummmmm no" If you ask me every person should know their own nationality, every language is beautiful. Why wouldnt people learn it?

That's funny because I'm 1/2 German and In don't speak it, but I wasn't born in Germany soooo....

Walkign around my school all I hear are different languages, mostly different asian ones, but sometimes Polish.

I completely agree with Frylock, and I always have. Why on Earth would we have to learn spanish, when we are english speakers, because they come over here? It's BS. When we immigrate to Mexico, do we need to learn their language? Yes, because they have no english signs.

The immigrants better pray to god I never become a political figurehead.

WHen ur saying there are Germans in ur school do u mean that their are people of german ethnicity but not people who were born and raised and germany? if thats what u mean a lot of people dont learn their native tongue becuase they dont need to know it. If you know english you are the most prepared for life language wise. Plus the US speaks english predominantly so its not necessary to learn other languages. I am 100% italian aand i know how to speak italian. I didnt learn it through school cuz its not an option at my school so that could also be a reason why they dont speak their native tongue. I had to go to a private tutor to learn italian. And thats my imput on this discussion. any questions/comments quote me and let me know

It has nothing to do with the fact you are loaded with [American]freakin' lazy Mexiacans who don't want to learn English[/American]

It's because knowing how to learn another language, and being bilingual is one of the ebst way to exercise the mind.

That makes little to no sense.

So what you're saying is we, Americans, on OUR homeland, NOT theirs, have to learn THEIR language when they are illegal 25% of the time? When THEY don't have to learn anything? I have spanish posters at my school tacked first THEN english. We have every single newsletter in spanish and english. We have very sign in spanish and english. We have EVERY. SINGLE. Lecture given in both goddamn languages.

It's (bleep)ing disgusting. You probably don't have that problem because Canada is and has always been French and English, and you haven't had a freaking invasion.

This godforsaken country will be completely spanish in 30 years. 100% guarantee.

REEEALLLLY?!!?!

WOOOOW.

you haven't had a freaking invasion.

Nope. I guess it is a lot different. But we don't experience everything in school in both French and English that's just nuts. But that's in Western Canada, not in Quebec.

In Quebec it's all french, you look like an idiot to ask for Enlgish.

Of course. Didn't they try to recede at one point?

Exactly. The only part I was exaggerating was the lecture one. But even then many are given in both.

Absolutely no reason to try to learn english, amirite?

REEEALLLLY?!!?!

REEEALLLLY!

Just ask anyone in the southern US and they'll tell you something quite similar. Even phone calls, registration forms, shopping center areas, and even the immigration forms can ALL be found in spanish, english, or french (3 major languages of North America).

Precisely why I will never learn spanish, even if it hinders me in life.

Oh yeah. They;ve tried to seperate. They have an entire party (Bloc Quebecois) devoted to seperating from Canada, they run in federal elections even though they can't mathematically win they can only come 2nd.

They are constantly fighting over language rights and have loads of cultural protection organization and stuff. They've spawned terrorist organizations (FLQ) which kidnapped foreign politicians. They have had referendums to decide wether or not they would remain a part of Canada. And beleive it or not, they were .7% of the population of Quebec away from leaving Canada.

The whole Enlgish-French thing is nuts in Canada...

And they wonder why they always lose. . . .

I don't think that they would last all to long anyway. Not with us right next to them. They make one wrong move (which I can see with that description >>.>&gt and they'll have 100,000 soldiers and tanks rolling through them.

All because they want to speak french everywhere in the country >>.>> *Sigh* The world is a tad f-ed up eh?

Well I am Italian, German, Irish, Scottish, and English. I don' speak German or Italian but I mos likely will take a spanish class in High School.
It would be nice to have people who spoke multiple languages becuase you could get a better job in almost any country I would think.
So more towards the topic.... People shouldn' ever insul people just becuase they can speak another language. Infact they should want to be friends with them cause they might be going places. If all you speak is that language then I strongly insist you stay in your own country until you learn the language of your choosing.

Well, some people are only part of their nationality.
For example, they might not have spent that much time in their own country, or only their parents were born native to that country.

Of course, the correct thing to do is to try to rekindle with your native tongue. (I'm currently learning my native language, not telling what that is)

I'm in Nanning now, I have friends from all continents.

I have Brazilian, Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian(me), Irish, Englishman, Laos, Cameroon and Sweden.

All of them learn Chinese here. With 1,3 billion people on China and all China Town in all corners of the world, Chinese language will be the next language you need to learn about.

My Irish friends, David, he can't speak any Chinese, his parents are Chinese but he grown up in Dublin.

My friend Corum, He can speak many languages, he is 21 now, he study Chinese and Kantonese since 2003, go to Japan half year and stay in South Korea for 2 years, he can speak French and German too, but I think his German is not too good.

'you are what you think'

If you don't learn, you wouldn't know that you might be able to know about it.

I have a Chinese blood, but don't speak Chinese until I was 24, so, yeah, I just learn Chinese for a year now.

Chinese government is so kind, they give Bachelor and Master degrees for free if you past the HSK, score 6, 8 is the highest. But you can't barely understand when Chinese people talk English word. Most of them can't spell the 'r' part in 'girl', so they spell it 'gel' or 'ge'.
