Not in the slightest, it was a good game, but nowhere near best. The best is pure opinion though. But if you go by popularity, then FF7 is, but it's better to go off of personal opinion.
The best, in my eyes, is FF 8. The gameplay was just great, I never played a better FF since.
Well, if you like FF7, then you gotta love FF3 and 4, because "The Creator" based 7 off those two games and incorporated detailed combat structures in the mix.
After FF7, "The Creator" retired, so all the games from then generally went downhill. Especially X-2 +, because missions are NOT how a typical final fantasy game is supposed to be. Ratings on every game site from those games dropped completely.
Then, they figured, "oh, well FF7 was a good game and everyone liked that, so let's base all our new games off that!". WRONG ANSWER.
Sorry, I'm just angry at those who took over "The Creator"'s spot, because they are brainless.

By your standards a game sucks because it's popular? You are an idiot. It became popular for a reason. Because it is awesome. Saying it's not in the slightest the best is the dumbest thing I have ever heard, and I have no respect for some as dumb as you. Only stupid people say games they don't like aren't good. Smart people see the wealth behind the game even if they don't like it. I don't like a lot of games like command and conquer, but I still acknowledge that the are good games.

True.

Although the way you are saying "The Creator" is really stupid instead of calling him by his name, I agree that they went downhill, because they tried replicating ff7 instead of making new ones based on their own knowledge. Although I do hear the new FF is actually gonna rock.
My personal favorite is FF3, was awesome as hell and I think Kefka>Sephiroth any day. FF7 is awesome too though.
I've only played 3 of them (FFX, FFX-2. FFXII), so out of those three I have to pick FFX, the story is great, the characters are great, and it has some pretty epic battles, and I almost forgot to mention how I love the soundtrack. The ending was kind of bitter sweet though.
FFX-2 was alright, I liked the battle system and the dress spheres were pretty cool. The downside for me was that the world was already discovered if that makes sense. Also, getting 100% to see the special ending is just ridiculous.
FFXII was awesome through the first 30 hours, and then came 50 hours of almost no plot development or character develoment. I really love the style of the game, but I never became attached to the characters.
