Canadian politician, businessman, creator of PotTV, Cannabis Culture magazine editor, political activist and seller of marijuana seeds was sentenced to 5 years in an American prison today due to his operation of a tremendously successful marijuana seed selling website. All profit from his website was converted into charitable donations towards drug addiction treatment centres or used in his various political campaigns as a member of the NDP, Green Party, and Cannabis Party.
In 1996 his Vancouver store Hemp BC was raided by police and his entire stock was seized in 1998. He then switched to a mail order seed business. He had never been to the United States yet he was sentenced to jail THERE rather than in Canada. He was left alone for the most part to do his thing, until 2005 when Canadian police raided the BC Marijuana Party bookstore on behalf of the AMERICAN DEA.
Canadian police have not and will not lay charges.
Is it right that Marc Emery was arrested by the U.S DEA, and is being extradited to the United States when he never even set foot in the country. He did dispute his crime, merely the location and length of the sentence. He is only being sentenced in America because the sentences are more sever there.
The American DEA has said he is no different than a drug dealer. But he isn't...
Even though he committed the crime, his being arrested and sentenced was wrong.
The Canadian government had never made any attempt to stop him unless acting on the request of an American agency.

There you go. When it involves Americans, Americans act. If it was purely for Canadians, the US government could have cared less, because it is not their country. When it causes trouble to Americans and Canada doesn't press charges for his crime, then the US government will act accordingly.
I didn't see anywhere that it said internationally. But, international could also have meant selling to countries outside of Canada where its legal, such as Argentina.
Looks like it was changed since I posted it.
This part.
United States government officials have described Emery as a drug dealer for his efforts to sell marijuana seeds nationally and abroad.
Use to read.

The question is, was he shipping to America? He probably wasn't. Its not that easy to simply ship drugs to America through an internet website.
I doubt he could manage it. What I don't understand is why the Canadian government doesn't step in. They have barely made any efforts to stopping him, they allowed him to act on the political stage during these events, and he shouldn't be sent to a country he has never set foot in to serve his sentence.
It isn't an uncommon belief in Canada that Marc Emery was arrested for political reasons rather than for the actual crime. If marijuana was legalized in Canada it would be catastrophic for the war on drugs that America is waging.
