Ya I know most of you guys don't like dictatorship because you can't really have freedom of speech, religion ect... But who here thinks that it would be worth it if the dictator actually cared about it's citizens and made plenty of jobs, fair wages, strong economy ect... Explain do you think it'd be worth the sacrifice of open religion and freedom of speech?

A Dictatorship has a lot of potential.

If the leader was kind, and cared about his people.

Unfortunaetly there are 2 huge problems.

The first is what happens when the leader dies, you don't want to be passing it on to heir's because then you have created a Monarchy. And we all know intelligence and leadership ability doesn't run in the family.

If you get past that there's the fact that he may start out well but change after a while.

True

And sadly even more true

The best form of government would probably be living under a benign, super genius of a dictator. However, as that's not the case, the usual curtailment of freedoms etc...

No. Just no.

Please just think for one minute.

A nice dictator will never happen, it just won't.

If a person has too much power probably will abuse it. The leader may have at the beginning good intentions but soon he will do more harm than good.

Really? Just think of what Hitler did in Germany solved the depression opened up million of jobs tried to get rid of &quotropaganda" (books, movies ect...) to try to make everyone think Germans were heros so no rebellions or anything.

And if you think he was evil because of all the people he killed just remember this he tried to deport them to other countries which they denied them therefore because Germany was low on jobs he put them in camps.

The leader may have at the beginning good intentions but soon he will do more harm than good

Ya PROBABLY but not nesseccarily

Anybody read Paradise Lost?

Also, economic intervention cripples the economy, so a dictatorship would collapse eventually.

Korea has been a dictatorship for a while and the economic intervention hasn't collasped it yet nor or they on the verge of collasping.

Are you trying to say if a dictatorships economy is weak the dictatorship will prosper and if the economy grows the dictatorship will prosper?

i have to agree with the general statement of this thread.

in the right hands, dictatorship could be the best thing for the people.

however as history has shown us power corrupts.

i used the hitler example when i was trying to talk to people about how they always remember the bad things people did, but they claim the holocaust is too big of an evil to even consider the good things hitler did.

A dictatorship would only work for me if I was the dictator. The loss of freedom of speech wouldn't bother me since I could choose what could be said and heard. The loss of religious freedom wouldn't be so bad since I could choose which religions and denominations could be attended. The loss of the freedom to choose which job I wanted would be a no brainer (why that one never gets covered in these discussions I'll never know). The loss the freedom to decide how many children to have and what genders are acceptable would work since I make that rule too. Otherwise I think I'll just continue fighting the good fight for freedom against oppressors.
