Ya I know most of you guys don't like dictatorship because you can't really have freedom of speech, religion ect... But who here thinks that it would be worth it if the dictator actually cared about it's citizens and made plenty of jobs, fair wages, strong economy ect... Explain do you think it'd be worth the sacrifice of open religion and freedom of speech?

i used the hitler example when i was trying to talk to people about how they always remember the bad things people did, but they claim the holocaust is too big of an evil to even consider the good things hitler did.

Hehe I think the holocaust is to good a good to consider the FEW things he did bad

Back on topic now.

Poorer the country is, better for the dictator and his friends is.

If a dictator can good a good economic situation maybe the people will realise what good the dictator did and may want to keep dictatorship.

however as history has shown us power corrupts.

Sadly I have to agree

For a truly effective dictatorship, the dictator would have to be built from scratch to be an erudite, essentially perfect being. A perfectly physically fit person, an extremely intelligent person, an extremely calm person, and an unbelievably selfless and altruistic being would have to be smashed together into one person.

His associates, officers and co-workers should be perfect too, you may have the perfect leader but if the rest are not, all the system fails. The leader can't do anything personally, if his representatives are corrupted all the system is corrupted.

I can see great potential with a good dictator, but there's just to many power hungry and corrupt people out there. With great power comes great responsibility, and it seems like there are way to many people out there abusing that power for whatever reason.

Hey, there's a type of Soviet socialism called democratic centralism that is supposed to have a dictator and democracy coexist. It lasted until Lenin died in 1924.

I'd die before I gave up my freedoms, there wouldn't be any point of living if I couldn't express my opinions and beliefs. I wouldn't care how "nice" my life would be, it would just be superficial.

Why not secretly or just tell your friends?

I don't think it would be worth giving up all my freedoms, but if you meant just giving the power to one man, that could be okay. I still think the freedoms of religion and speech are important, but if we could allow those, and simply let teh dictator make laws that did not prohibit these practices, it might pave the way for some great successes.
The only thing is, how long before a bad dictator gets in? If a bad president gets in, he's got eight years at most. If a bad dictator gets in, millions of innocent people may end up paying the price.

I can't disagree with anything there
