This is a relitively fun, and interesting thread. In this thread people can post all the pointless facts they want, to show off their knowledge, or how much time they have. . This thread was inspired by a book I found called "The Book Of General Ignorance" by John Lloyd and John Mitchinson. Anyway, with that in mind feel free to post those facts you have been itching to tell people...

Rules:
No Spam (of course)
Only for general knowledge facts and comments on other posts
Have Fun!

I will start it off, and every so often add new quotes from the book...

1. "What was odd about Rudolph the Red-
Nosed Reindeer?
He was a girl
Despite being called Rudolph and referres to as "him," like all Santa's reindeer he must in fact have been female. Male reindeer lose their antlers at the beginning of winter. Females keep their antlers until they give birth in spring." (241)

2. Cinderellas shoes were in fact originally made from squirrel fur. "Charles Perrault, who wrote the familiar version of the story in the seventeenth century, misheard the word vair (squirrel fur) in the medieval tale he borrowed and updated for the similar-sounding verre (glass)." (233)

So, time to show off your general knowledge... Have Fun!

In Scotland, a new game was invented. It was entitled Gentlemen Only Ladies Forbidden.... and thus the word GOLF entered into the English language.

The word golf was first mentioned in writing in 1457 on a Scottish statute on forbidden games as gouf,[1] possibly derived from the Scots word goulf (variously spelled) meaning "to strike or cuff". This word may, in turn, be derived from the Dutch word kolf, meaning "bat," or "club," and the Dutch sport of the same name. But there is an even earlier reference to the game of golf and it is believed to have happened in 1452 when King James II banned the game because it kept his subjects from their archery practice.[2] It is often claimed that the word originated as an acronym for "gentlemen only, ladies forbidden", but this is an urban legend
