An infection has hit Union City, no-one is sure what is happening. Authorities have told citizens to stay in their homes and to wait for updates. The chaos outside your apartment is growing, looting, savage beatings, people killing each other in broad daylight. Itâs safer inside. A week goes by, the transmissions stop, the food is running out. The situation can only get worse, itâs time to leaveâ¦
The Last Stand: Union City, the third installment in the Last Stand series is currently in production and will be released in Q1 2010. It will take place during the first few weeks of infection in Union City. Taking the role of a survivor who holed up in their apartment during the initial spread of the infection, the player will be forced to venture out and make their way in the city. Escape will be the ultimate goal.
Features Include: - Side Scrolling Open World - Scavenge for weapons and items - Custom character creation - Level and Skill progression - Living city: Day and Night cycles, Weather - Dynamic driven enemies: âZombie directorâ - Two game modes that affect the style of the game
Union City will be side scrolling open world for the player to fight the hordes in and search for weapons and food. You will mould your character from the beginning, deciding appearance, background and skills. During your time in Union City you will earn experience and gain efficiency in a number of different skills, how you progress in these skills will be based of your actions.
During your travels you will encounter other survivors, they will help you get a grip on whatâs happening, tell you their situation and in some cases join your fight.
Union City itself is a living city with day and night passing as you travel, itâs once living citizens will be driven dynamically, no street or building will play the same each time you enter.
The game will have two seperate game modes - âRunân'Gunâ and âSurvivorâ. The Runân'Gun game mode will be more in line with the original games and have a focus on action and lessen the RPG elements. Survivor on the other hand will have common survival problems such as hunger, need for sleep and conservation of ammunition to deal with. Much of the story and gameplay will be identical in both modes.

Con said you cant make a girl character but there will be female survivors, because then he would have to re-do all the clothes differences and what not
Just an update this time around guys. Working hard on the game the last few weeks, trying to get a few of the last key features down before I put anything else out for testing. Hereâs a run-down of what Iâve been working on:
Quests Currently got two basic quest types in place, Fetch and Talk. The Talk quest type is as simple as it sounds and requires you to talk to the right target, Iâll use this sort of thing for âFind my daughterâ type quests. Fetch quests are much more interesting as Iâve set them up to allow for multiple item requirements. Say you need to find parts for a motorcycle for example. The test quest Iâve got at the moment has one of the NPCâs making a drink order.
Weapons Iâm pretty much constantly adding new weapons to the game. Theyâre a fairly quick and brainless thing for me to do at this stage. New stuff includes: - Ambrose (larger capacity shotgun) - Nailboard (board with nails in it) - Flame Can (spray can and lighter) - RPG The problem with those last two is that theyâve required a fair bit of custom code work to get them working as they should. They both still need a fair bit of work to finish up.
Game Mechanics Thereâs been some fairly big additions to the game mechanics since the last version of the game. Hereâs an overview.
Struggles All zombies will on occasion attempt to grab the player starting a struggle situation. Basically the player is locked in place until they free themselves via a quick key mash. How many times you need to hit the key depends on your characters Strength and Fitness skills.
Missed Shots This is an idea Iâve been tinkering with for quite a while. Itâs still not perfect, but the ideas is to give the weapon skills your character has more weight in the game. Every shot has a random chance of missing, the chance of hitting is increased by the playerâs appropriate weapon skill.
Health Regeneration After realising that death can happen rather quickly and not wanting to flood the game world with medkits etc, Iâve implemented regenerating health. Youâll need to avoid damage for 3 seconds for it to kick in and then itâll slowly come back, but only to a certain level. Effectively, you now have two health bars, temporary health (grey bar) and permanent health (red bar) which when drained will result in death.
Riot Shield Zombies Zombies with riot shields. At the moment they donât really make sense, carrying their shields up in front of them. Going to rework their AI to be more zombie like, having them exposed more. The new Alpha with all this stuff will be around before the end of the month.
