Todays Kalashnikov's 90'th Birthday, and he's still making guns. He's been an idol to me, and has been a great inspiration to my country, so I thought why not celebrate his Birthday on ArmorGames?

An Ak-47 isn't even close to a WMD...can an AK-47 blow up a house by itself? Can it kill one million people in an instant like an Atomic Bomb can, then have other people die from after-effects? The AK is just a gun one person normally carries.

Anyway, I don't see what's to idolize about a guy who created a weapon of mass destruction.

That I would have to disagree with. Now, I don't idolize the guy whatsoever. But, the gun he created is not a 'weapon of Mass Destruction.' The term 'Weapons of Mass Destruction' see more fit to actual weapons that can cause mass destruction. Such as nuclear bombs, bunker busters, hydrogen bombs etc.

The AK-47 is not a weapon of mass destruction. It can only cause enough damage until it runs out of bullets, and depends on who the shooter is. (Trained or not) Many people use the gun in third world countries since it's cheep to acquire, but that does not mean it causes damage to the likes of the bombs stated above.

Kalashnikov designed a rifle to defend the Soviet Union against its enemies just as WWII had ended. His rifle became a symbol of revolution due to its ease of use and availability. His weapon has been used by both the just and the unjust, for good reasons and bad, it has both freed and enslaved. Just goes to show a weapon is only as bad or as good as the person holding it.
90 years old and still working, that's impressive, hopefully he'll get a few more years, the AK line is still coming out with brilliant weapons designed for reliability and accuracy, AK-108 looks good to me.

I'm not a fan of war nor am I an inventor, so I'm not influenced by his ability to create weapons. However, I can see how his devotion in times of war to turn the tide of battle is inspiring.

Orale', I already said I didn't mean it. I was just saying that it is a weapon that has been used to cause millions of deaths. I meant in no way that it is literally a weapon of mass destruction, just that it is a powerful, lethal weapon and that it is just a little unusual in my eyes to idolize their creator. But yes, agreeing with Nemo, it is inspiring when someone that elderly influences war and battle so much.

I'm sorry, I must have missed the part where you said you didn't mean it. I was just clearing up that fact that I thought you were one of those to simply put it as a 'bad thing'. Where as guns and WMD's are the same. Not that I have anything against people like that. Though, it can get annoying when they refuse to listen to what you have to say, and categorize everything big and small into 'War and WMD's'.

Pardons on my behalf.

I find it quite saddening that on rememberence sunday, the commemoration of the millions who lost ther lives fighting during war, that it would be deemed appropriate to celebrate the inventor of a weapon which has caused so much death over the years.

The saddest thing is that the copy write to "Happy Birthday" is owned by some company associated with AOL and they charge $10,000 for it to be used in a movie.
