In the USA tomorrow is veterans day and you guys just say what you are going to do with your day off tomorrow, if you actually celebrate it, etc. Personally I just like the day off. What about you?
Today is Remembrance Day in Canada, which is generally the same thing. And I find it rather ironic that COD is released on the day before. I guess they just wanted the 11/10/09 date which is rather cool.
Anyways, take the time to think about what soldier's have done for you. Without them, you most likely wouldn't be reading this message right now.
Sweet! I have a day off school today.
Haha, same here. But my school district is trying to save money (recession), so...
Wednesday = Remembrance Day (holiday day off) Thursday = School Closure Day Friday = Non-Instructional Day
Poppy Day (as it is in UK) is always sad though we do most of the memorial stuff on Rememberence Sunday (second Sunday of November) so all we really had to do today was have a 2 minutes silence and most of the chavvy fucks at school couldn't even manage that.... it makes me so angry to think of all that the veterans have done over the years and some idiot can't even manage to be silent for 2 minutes. >
Yea I know my teacher on 9/11, since I live in the USA, couldn't even shut up for 30 seconds for the people that died that day. Isn't the world just a wonderful place? @$$holes and terrorists.
Well I guess who gets the day off varies depending on where you live, but I'm glad I got the day off since I'm still sick....only problem is trying to enjoy it...
Happy this and merry that. How many freaking holidays does the US have? I mean seriously! There isn't a whole months let alone 2 weeks without a holiday!
@ Pixie, surveys show that over half the young people in Britain don't actually know why people wear poppies, or what Rememberance Day is actually about.
I do think it's rather symbolic of the changing times that Harry Patch and the last British servicemen from WW1 died this year. . Right now, people have grandparents who fought in WW2, so because of that connection, people feel they should honour it. Once that last connection is severed in 20 or 30 years time, I wouldn't be surprised if Remembrance Day is far less significant.
