However it's not so much the vilification of the enemy that I don't like, but the hypocrisy of it. By all means try and sort out Afghanistan. There are plenty of good reasons for being there. Just don't claim it's because the Taliban are evil, because, for one thing, it's a matter of perspective, and for another, they are pretty low down on the list of groups we would see as being truly 'evil'.
If the United States went on an all out offensive the war could have been over in 3 years or less.
The war in Afghanistan isn't about full-out force, and basically all the high-up military commanders have acknowledged that. They've admitted that it's about garnering the trust of the natives near the Pakistan border who are being forced to harbor the Taliban.
We've shown force already, and we are long due for the strategy shift that this new surge in troops will bring.
The more troops sent to afghanistan, the worse itll get for surrounding countries, especially Pakistan, cuz lots of afghans immigrate into pakistan to escape violence. thes immigrants are very poor and uneducated and thus are easy targets for indoctrination by taliban.

I think it's time magazine that has or had a top ten list of worst dictators they do every year. I was reading it and it said that the reason dictators from last years list weren't on it wasn't because they improved it was because other dictators got worse. My point is that the Taliban are evil but there are many other groups who are evil and getting worse. That's not to say the world wouldn't be better off without the Taliban, at least in the long run.

There I agree, but that's exactly what pisses me off so much about UK/US government stances on the war. If you do want to get rid of the Taliban for pragmatic reasons, then say it. Don't send in the cannon fodder and say it's for freedom. We should at least know what we are supposed to be fighting for.
I am against war, but I think Obama is doing everything possible to lose this war in Afghanistan. We need to hit them fast, and hard. Then leave. Show them what America is made of, and what we can do when you mess with us.
If that were true the troops would be home and millions would be slaughtered once the ships left harbor and the planes took off. He wants to be able to continue to make his predecessor look bad so people will not pay as much attention to his own flaws.

Well I do believe they/we want freedom for Afghanistan. Although, the reasons for wanting it are, almost definitely, less than noble.

hey don't blame me i didn't vote for Obama i wrote in Bill Clinton
lets see, this war started because of 9/11 right? but 3 towers fell that day, yet only 2 got hit by the plane, so how the hell did the 3rd one fall? anyone have an answer?
