I personally like saying Merry Christmas, because I actually believe that we are really celebrating Jesus' birthday on a completely arbitrary but nicely festive day (No Roman Emperor in their right mind would call for a census in the middle of winter)
Christianity was not the first religion to use the time as a point of major religious importance, therefore it should not be represented as such.
Ok, so Christians took over the date in the 4th century. But after 1600 years of using it, can you really blame us for taking it over? I mean, if you can bring me one worshiper of the unconquered sun who feels his religion threatened by that, maybe we can talk, but I really do not think anyone still practices, let alone believes, that religion.
I think it is perfectly fine to refer to Christmas as a Christian Holiday. But, you are right, if someone wants to celebrate this time differently, they are more than allowed to, and I do not get offended if people do not wish me "Merry Christmas."
I think everyone should be allowed to use whatever greetings they want, without any discrimination. That means Atheists: Don't not shop in a store that has "Merry Christmas" in the windows; Christians: Don't now shop in a store that has "Happy Holidays" in the windows.
I prefer to use Happy Holidays. Reason being I got tired of saying Merry Christmas! and getting the reply "I'm Jewish" Happy Hanukkah! "I'm Christian" Happy...Kwanzaa? "What's Quanza?".
It just became easier for me to say Happy Holidays.

I don't have any problem shopping at a place that has "Merry Christmas".
The only thing that offends me is when someone tries to make this time of year bland by saying, "Happy Holidays". If you don't wanna offend anyone, why not just be quiet. Why create some odd greeting? Saying Hi, Hello, How are you or nothing works just fine.
I usually say Happy Holidays if I don't know the person, because most of the people I know I also know what they celebrate and so say happy _____ depending on what they celebrate.
While anyone with a brain can figure out that Christ was not born on Dec 25th some whaco Pope made the holiday celebrated then. It has remained as thus and is one of 2 holidays when people who never go to church will just to be with family and keep up traditon. Why the hell this
came to be celebrated at the same time of year I will never know. While many of you will point to the pagan holiday that was at this time do not forget that it is near the Festival of Lights aka Jewish Hanukkah. If the miracle of oil had not happened I don't really think that the holiday would have ended up at such a time. I'm sure many of you would disagree but the Christians and Jews were and are linked and I think the holidays are as well. Hanukkah starts on the 25th day of Kislev.
Honestly, I think that's all a bunch of bull. I'm gonna say Merry Christmas because my family celebrates Christmas. None of us are religious. We do it because it's not about Jesus for us, it's about family and being together and love.

Nice, all of them are objective but anyone here take offense if some say Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas to them? Death666 I honestly don't think its a weird greeting because December has so many different holidays in it that it easier to say Happy Holidays instead of saying Happy Kwanzaa and offending the person.
Personally, I feel like people can use whatever they want. Makes no difference to me. Christmas is supposed to be a time of joy and stuff right? Why get all mad at the person just because they aren't Christian but referencing a Christian holiday?

True, but happy holidays offends some people, too. I happen to be one of those people. Whereas Hi, Hello, How are you or nothing offends almost nobody.
