So I came home for the holidays and I find my church has installed cameras to watch the parking lots. In my opinion it is sad that people would be reduced to sealing from a church, but if someone is truly that desperate the church should take pity on them instead of resorting to this.

Why is it a church is special? If they steal from a home it's okay?
Seriously, churches steal from everyone, and they don't fell good about some one taking back.
Who do churches steal from? If you mean they ask for donations, that quite different from stealing. They ask for money, and most churches don't require you to pay anything. And if a church really does require you to pay something, and it really bugs you, leave that church. No big deal.
Most religions that require you to pay money are technically cults, and cults are very well known for... Not encouraging that type of behavior. Though I would think that's more of an exaggeration on the media's part.
Then I guess you must be one of those people who thinks that the Roman Catholic church is a cult. You pay money to have them pray people out of Purgatory.
I can see Catholic churches as a big target, what with their special ceremonial vessels and the fact that they brag about how much money they can amass, but in my town the churches are mostly small and money is not left around but gets taken care of straight away.

If you really want to get down to the nitty-gritty: Every property any religion has in this country is tax exempt. Everything they buy for the buildings is tax exempt.
Which in some circumstances can be fine, such as if they run a soup kitchen or a storefront that donates all proceeds to local efforts.

I still wouldn't call that stealing, though. That's the government's refusal to tax, not the church taking from the government. Now, if there was a tax in place, which churches refused to pay after gathering together a union or something, then that would be another story.
I think installing cameras is a good idea. It would stop people from stealing, or at least stop stealing from that specific place. Therefore, it is stopping sin and promoting good. How is that bad?
Proverbs 6: 30Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry; 31But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.
I see both the good and bad sides. But again as I said I think it is the Roman Catholic church that needs to worry since they are so $$$ oriented. They probably tape you as you fall asleep in your pew.
