@Firefly remember in the last alcohol thread when you told me that redbull/vodka was good? Last week we had a "talk" in our 6th Form enrichment thing about alcohol and they talked for about an hour then had a specific portion just on Redbull/Vodka explaining why it is a ridiculous drink to have lol but hey how bad can "the same symptoms of a heart attack" be >_>. To be honest the whole talk was a waste of time since by the time your 17/18 in England you kinda know if/what your gonna drink or not. 90% of the people in the hall had their own views etc. and ignored it and the other 10% didn't drink anyway.
There's nothing weird about disliking alcohol, it's no different than disliking any other food or drink.
I'm not argyuing that disliking alcohol is weird, I'm just arguing that the attitudes towards people who drink it are mostly unfounded.
Lol. I didn't say I did, I just said I know a great many things. Some types of alcohol being one of those.
I thought I knew a lot about alcohol when I was 13. I really didn't.
The reason I don't ever want to drink.
Drinking doesn't have to entail alcoholism. Of course it's a personal choice, and judging by your family history, you have a natural inclination to get addicted to the stuff. However at the end of the day it comes down to will power. I'm sure there is a link between genetics and alcoholism, but at the same time people do have the option to drink in moderation, and refuse to do so.

And I stand by that statement, especially if you're going clubbing and need the energy of the red bull, but the confidence the alcohol gives you. Also double vodka and lime. Pretty standard for a lash up. Although I generally draw the line at doubles. I've had a few big nights out in Newcastle where you can get 3 trebles for a fiver. Since they were all special occassions, I knocked them back, but they really were very potent. I would never make it a regular thing.

To be perfectly honest I don't really rate any educational talks on the subject. Not that I don't think kids should be educated on the dangers of alcohol, just that talks like that are completely the wrong approach. By the time I was 14/15 and had those kinds of things regularly they assumed we were so innocent about it, and were annoyingly condescening. To top it off, the guy giving the talks admitted to us that he didn't drink. Who I am I more likely to believe. Someone who had never drunk in their life or my own experience of drinking?
I've been offered a sip before. Was about to taste it but the smell drove me away lol xP. Seriously, the stuff smells nasty, I dunno why anyone would drink it.
I know enough. I don't claim to be an expert, I just know enough.
Knowledge comes with experience, and that especially goes for alcohol.
I'll just have to wait and see.
All I'm saying is don't abstain for fear of becoming an alcoholic. It doesn't have to be that way. You can still have very enjoyable drinking experiences without becoming addicted ot the stuff.

I'll more than likely end up drinking at some point no matter how hard I try. I'll just have to wait and see.

I know from experience alcohols bad side. A lot of experience.
Liver failure, vomiting, blackouts. Whole nine yards.
red wine taste like poop unless you get a wine breather, something to get rid of cork taint. unless your dad is buying 500 $ bottles of wine.
Usually $35 to $40 dollar bottles at a big discount, and I don't try sips until they've had a few hours in a decanter/in a glass.
I have caught the scent of hard liquor before . . . it made me feel kinda queasy D:
The extent of my other culinary exploits with alcohol are demi glaces, reductions, etc. There's an Irish restaurant nearby where I live, and they have a delicious steak in a whiskey sauce . . . and a BBQ restaurant has some tasty cinnamon apples with a cinnamon amaretto sauce. But according to my parents, the sauces taste nothing like the drinks themselves xD

Ahah, I never said you were, I was directing that at the OP, because he seems to think it's strange to dislike the stuff.

Yessir. Fortunately, no one in my family has a history of drinking. But that doesn't mean I shouldn't drink in moderation once I get to that age, nor should it mean that to anyone else.
And just as an example for the whole personal choice and inclination subject, I choose not to smoke ever. And I will stand by that for as long as I live. Not just because some cheap after-school special told me that smoking is teh badness, but because my late father was a smoker, and he passed away as a result of lung cancer when I was very young.
I love alcohol, it's so great! Beer, wine, whisky, vodka and a great and not well known drink called "Fernet". Mix it with Coke, and it's an elixir! Greetings.
My sister, cousin Dave, cousin Claire, Aunt, and Uncle were all chemists. I know all about wafting
It still disgusts me.
cant drive in college :\\\\ on the first 2 years.
? I'm not sure where this makes any sense. From my own experience, I could get my drivers license when I was 16 (still in high school) and attending a college or university didn't strip me of my drivers license. Explain?
Believe me, it does start to taste good. Really good. Not to mention the fact it enhances your night out.
It doesn't necessarily start tasting good for everyone. As for it enhancing your night out.. I've never felt like drinking alcohol has done anything to improve anything for me. I do agree with you on the point of people getting snobby about not drinking though - that irritates me as well.
lol im a party kid what can i say and i tried white whine which i heard was supposed to be "the best" and i had to wash out my mouth. i dont drink but i try somtimes and it jsut taste like shit
