Have you ever been walking down the street and someone comes up to you and sais "you must believe in god" and if you say no they say "You will go to hell!" itz damn annoying.
Anyone trespassing and you get self defense. Sticking their foot in the door is considered trespassing (even breaking and entering, depending on how the keep the door open).
But enough off topic.
Religious fanatics still annoy me.
Weeven, you're Mormon, no? I had a lot of friends who were Mormon.
Few times. I've had buddhists approach me and hand me flyers, I've had some christian variant lecture me at the bus stop while I was waiting for a bus (no escape!! AAAAA!!) and I was briefly accosted by someone from the church of scientology. I don't have to deal with people knocking on my door - you need a security fob just to get into the building.
It irritates me as well as being a source of entertainment.

Next time they try to get you to convert to there religion try and convert them to being a satanist and see how they react.
I honestly am shocked by some of the barbarities these people say. Their actions are often, if not always, completely against what they claim to believe and they are the embodiment of intolerance and ignorance. Plus, they're pretty damn annoying.
I would agree. There is a Christian woman who believes that it is good that troops are dying in Iraq and Afghanistan because she believes the US needs to be punished.
Many of these people are following the teachings of the bible, which says to go out into the world and make disciples of everyone (or something along those lines). That particular verse is interpreted as a variety of ways, but I would like to think that these people on the streets are genuinely trying to help people's lives by showing them Jesus's love. They are exercising their religion, and while it can be annoying, it is their right. And they also feel it is their duty as members of their faith to spread the word of God's love. Yes, you have the nut jobs out there. And the people who simply want to get personal or financial gain from these things. But this is a type/token distinction. The type of evangelizing that goes on, I think, should be respected. However, there are tokens (specific instances or people) or this practice that I've personally wanted to drag out into the street and shoot. My point: you can criticize certain individuals for the way they evangelize, but I think it's wrong to condemn the entire practice itself. Looking at it in an understanding light, these people do have a genuine concern for humanity. I would also like to point out that they're not trying to make you believe in god. Many people already do, but these groups believe there are certain keys to salvation. At the very least, maybe they hope to take already practicing Christians and put them in a new environment - perhaps one where they can better appreciate why it is they go to church.

You may like to think that in your own little world, but the reality of it is that scaring people by saying they will go to hell if they are not faithful in Christianity sounds more like a threat then showing one's love.
It is their right, but I think we can all agree that it can be quite annoying and can get very skewed in its interpretation.

Well, I'd like to think my ideas extend beyond "my own little world" but that point aside, I think you're completely missing mine. For these people, hell is a very real and scary place. Ever since the Second Great Awakening, images of fire and brimstone have been used to steer people away from sin and toward the church. Again, I'm looking at purely the idea of evangelizing on the street to individuals. This practice is also called for in the Bible, as I mentioned earlier, and these people use the bible to guide their lives. If we just flatly say that evangelizing is wrong (or something to that effect) then we are rejecting - from the outside - a basic doctrine of Christianity and many other faiths. These people are absolutely convinced that those who do not accept Christ are doomed to spend eternity in hell, and this is their way of helping others to avoid that fate. Certainly there is corruption within the system - people doing it only to recruit followers for their church to make a profit. But I'm talking about the idea moreso than those who preach it.

If the Bible called for it's followers to run around poking people with stick repeatedly, even if it was just lightly, should we just accept this behavior? I know physical contact is a far cry from standing in the street preaching. We could perhaps better compare it to those who stick there feet in doors to keep preaching at you. The point is, just because they think they are helping doesn't make it any less annoying to have to put up with.
With that said I can still understand why they do it. As Penn put it, to paraphrase. "If I was sure you would get hit by a truck if you stayed where you were I would eventually get to the point where I would try to push you out of the way to save your life."
I don't find one particular religion annoying, but I do find people who can't fathom one having a different opinion from their own annoying. Just because you whole-heartedly believe something doesn't convince me to believe it. I do believe in things, but that's my own belief and if I meet someone who doesn't believe there is a God, I can understand why they don't and I don't feel the need to "belittle" or stereotype them because of that.
People who try to make you believe in god. Are you talking about those Jeova Witness that came at 7'o clock in the SUNDAY morning to wake me talking rubbish? I've thrown them away.
