What was the most memorable game you have ever played? Mostly the kind of game that set up your view of all games, or perhaps the first game you ever laid your hands on with a controller?
Now, we all know that when the year 2000 came about, games like HALO were set to destroy the reputation of gaming, and dont even get me started on Call of Duty...
The sad thing is, series like these actually DID change gaming. It's pathetic that these games even got recognition, but the level of overrated attention is just ridiculous.
What I'M talking about is games like:
Perfect Dark Goldeneye DOOM Duke Nukem Legend of Zelda (several in the series)
These are just some examples, If I made an entire list, I would be banned for breaking the internet.
Yoshi's Island was the first game i played, and i still think its great, even compared to the Zelda series, though Twighlit Princess for Wii is my farvorite game
-- 007 was...the perfect mission-based shooter game. Rare needs to come back and make another 007 game and rekindle its past glory, because frankly, games after it were so terrible...
-- Duke Nukem and DOOM: revolutionized gameplay ability and true 3-D gaming. The sequels just kept getting better.
My personal favorite: Chrono Trigger. Back then, that was THE RPG game. It wasn't Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, it was Chrono Trigger. Unlike the other two, this one was ORIGINAL. It made you chuckle for the occasional moments that Ozzie would fail at prevailing and end up falling down 2 stories into a pit. It made you cry when the beloved Chrono was turned to stone and Marle and co. risked their lives to save him at all costs. It used time as a plot... it was just so perfect at the time.
My most memerable would have to be Super Mario bro's 3 for the SNES, One a lot of people in my family came to a get together and we played Super mario bro's 3 like all day and tried to beat it. It is a really challenging game =D
I'll second Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. I occassionally crack out my old N64, and even though the graphics have aged, the gameplay is still so much fun. Multiplayer on temple easily stands up to any COD or Halo match.
For multiplayer though it has to be mariocart.
Oh, and let's not forget Lylat Wars. I used to love that game, so hard.
This honestly needs to be brought back in a sequel, since Jaleco croaked, or at least be made into a flash game. Nothing spurs suspense more than when your prized dragon suddenly cocoons and later turns into an even mightier one while you wait.
