Well, during The cold war, the Taliban were HELPING the U.S government, while Soviet Russia invaded Afghanistan.
They were also raping women and cutting people's hands off. And this was in 1979 and into the 80s.
And the Afghan government actually requested Soviet assistance many times. It wasn't much of an invasion. The Soviets were fighting the US backed Islamic extremists.
