There was this game that I really liked a few years ago, but I forgot about it...you are this ship (I think it was white), and you had to fly around and shoot stuff...
At first you shot 3 little white things, and you could upgrade and add 1 on either side until you shot 7 of them. Also, you could upgrade to these yellow homing missiles...I think.
There were different versions of it, with small variations. For one of them, the final boss looked like this...transformers thing, and it took up most of the screen. It shot stuff at you, and decided to ram you...depending which side he rammed, there were safe spots to hide if you couldn't escape from his path. I think his legs were red.
It might have been called something like Area 51, but I'm not sure...
Do you have any more info on the game, specific names of characters, worlds or enemies used? Maybe the music or graphic detail or if there's a storyline and what it's about... love to help you out, but my search got zip so far... :S
Not upgrade complete...I don't remember the music, the graphics were sorta bad (kinda like the 1st one of upgrade complete actually...), worlds/enemies...I only remember the boss. I think one was a sea map. No storyline that I can remember, just you shooting stuff randomly.
