Is there anyone who can give me a reason to continue having the short story contest stickied? It is inactive, and there has been trouble with it as well?
Also, possibly looking for a new judge for the ASC.
It's a big contest, much more popular and awesome than my little "Draw that Fakemon" contest. This results into a huge amount of responsibility. I'm not entirely sure if people will like me in that spot, but I think judging is fun most of the time. I'm also a little experienced in this kind of thing. Like Cenere said, I have a way of getting angry, and that is NOT good for a judge at all. That's a big downer.
I doubt people will be happy with my style of judging. I don't draw good myself, and it feels weird judging other people's art that's better than mine. It's not easy giving them examples on how to improve.
At the same time, I have LOADS of free time. Instead of having a whole buncha' homework, I'm in school a little longer. That's a plus, I have time to judge.
Well, if you look at the bottom of this post, you'll see who I support.
[/quote] Anyway, I do think that the short story and poetry contest need reforms... Some hip, new topics that the wippersnappers would enjoy would be great for them. Although, like some have said, we just got out of a holiday funk, so maybe we should make some minor changes first, then if anything else needs changing you could do that. Just opinions here, so don't sue me about it(if I used the incorrect spelling for sue, please correct me)
Is a feasible solution having two judges?
I wouldn't think so, because it would probably get confusing as to who is judging when, or if you judge at the same time, you may have conflicting ideas. If you had a solid system, then I would definitely have more faith in it. Otherwise, I support the one-judge-but-maybe-have-a-temp-if-the-situation-allows sorta thing. (Bronze for ASC '10)

It allows more variety, though. It shouldn't take longer than 2 days, and if it were a score system, you average out the score and the highest average of the judges win. Or a 2/3 vote.
Or maybe screw the whole judge thing and have a vote amongst AG, or the competitors.
Just a thought.
As for shiny new threads, I agree with that. Even though the current ones are good enough, they are getting a bit cluttered.
Anyway, I agree that a panel of judges would likely add more needless confusion. As said, such a thing would require a solid system, something that is rather difficult to form on a casual gaming site.
A vote would be hectic. Not only would it delay the proceedings by waiting for the voting to take place, but it would also generate many pages of short, otherwise unnecessary posts. I, personally, believe that a signal judge should be used, as has always been done.
Crimsonblade55 is probably the only one who can rightfully object, having been through the strange ASC judge election we had last time we needed a judge.
I have no objection because at this time even if I still wanted to judge, I am simply too busy myself at the moment between being the only real programmer for my robotics team, and a ton of homework(Chemistry was made by Satan worshipers obviously). As long as he is good at it, then it would seem like a nice idea from my eyes.
Me should judge! I can't draw worth beans but I have a great eye for art. The best part about it is I don't have a life so you can always count on me to be there to judge!
(I am expecting the answer to be no, which is why I have written the sad reply below in advance)
Aww man, now I am sad. I now officially have no purpose in this world. Guess I'll go kill myself. ;(
@The discussion of the possibility of multiple judges: When we were both available for doing it at the same time, it did work for Cen and me. However, it took ridiculously longer than when it was just one of us (not counting in the days of delay, only the time the actual write-up of the judging takes). And that's despite us being in the same timezone and chatting a lot with each other on a daily basis - odds are new judges won't be in a position to do that, or may even need to email each other for a few days before things are settled. Also, an "average score" based ASC would make me sad. Particularly if the judges have (very) different tastes so it ends up being a bleh-ish middle ground entry that wins because you disagree on the more noteworthy entries - however they stand out (be it pure artistic skill, humor, lol-value, context, interpretation of the theme, obscurity, whatever).
Hence, yeah, single judge sounds best to me, possibly with someone standing as backup to take over for a round of two when/if the main judge needs to do stuff.
Also still think Bronze is the most qualified person to have said they're willing to take over. Might be wrong, only basing my opinion on what I know.

I don't like the idea of having the outcome of the biggest contest on the entire site being in the hands of one person. Think of it this way: American Idol would be a lot different without Simon. He could do it by himself, but the seasons would go too quickly because he doesn't approve very many people. And neither Paula or Randy could it off on their own.
The point is, if the entire competition is based on one person's particular taste, the entries will not be as diverse and the purpose of having an art skills contest will be defeated.
lol 2 bad no polls...Anyways I cast My VOTE towards BRONZE...if he fails we can always have another election...btw creating a new thread could help with it, I was thinking since we have sooo many posts...sometimes random in the ASC that instead of making the sticky 4 the whole thing why not just have a gallery of the entries and then the themes and such in a regular thread, that way a new contestant can easily see the other works rather then have to troll threw hundreds of pages....Just an idea
