i didnt know where else to put this so i put it here. please move to the correct section if this is wrong. thanks.
anyway back to the topic in hand,
i was wonder how can i become a game designer because i really want to join the gaming industry and a game designer seems to be the job for me but i dont know how to get into the industry.
i havnt seen any college courses for this though (I live in Hampshire in the southampton area(southern england)
You can study game development either thorough through correspondence (example) or in an university (ex Hull, Teesside). But if you are very talented and patient you can buy some guides and learn it by yourself.
It's best to get some extra training for it to, such as the makings of programming, the challenges that precede it, and just how much a pain in the arse the semicolon and the parentheses are. There are flash developers among us that do wish to end up going into the gaming industry, so that's why they learn the basics of how to make one themselves or with a couple others in a team.
First question: What kind of games? Flash or Video games? Secoond question: Are you already out of high school? Third question: What part of game design are you interested in?
Well, on a scale depending on how professionaly you want to do it, 1= ActionScript3 mini-programming 10= Full-blown C/C++/C# Professional programming
If your choice is closer to 10, I might be able to help you, see, I'm working on a monumentally huge project, and I need the help of someone fluent in C#. If you are interested, check out C# for dummies(seriously the best reference book I've found so far), try some simple coding, and get back to me.
