Polygamy. A huge families are made by having "it" a ton. Is it right? I man with 6 wives? Who has 45 grand children? Can you imagine? Anyways it interested me when I read National Geographic.
So if the first wife can't give you a boy, the next might (the one that give you a boy first would become the most important in the family. Again after mommy, of course).
Not too sensible considering its all a factor of luck within the males fluids, not the female egg. I'd presume we're talking it over on modern grounds here, and I'm sure its a well known fact that it depends on the male to produce either boy or girl.

Considering the culture, it would be the woman's duty to give the husband a boy child. Opposite a matriarchy, where it would be a gift to have a girl, or having the woman becoming pregnant. Or generally any faith that shows the woman as the giver of life.
I could imagine it would somewhat make sense. After all, it would be a symbol of status to have more than one wife, as you would show you would be able to feed them and any children they will give you. And considering infant death, or the boy dying before coming of age, it would obviously be a good thing to have more than one son. God forbid there was nothing but girls left when you are too old to work.
