Car starting of the future: here now! Well...was 1 year ago, but still!

Gist of the topic is, your keys are in the car and it is locked. Oh noes! Have no fear; the keyless entry feature has you punch in a 4-digit number code secret to you and your dealership, and it unlocks the door if the combination was entered successfully! Forget the code? Go to the car dealership that sold your car, verify that the car is indeed yours, and your code will be given to you again. Extra plans include keyless car starting to further increase security, a stretch, but may be on the right track!

Would this really help others in an emergency? Would this increase security of your vehicle, if one happens upon your keys? Is it really and "effective" feature of future cars? Discuss!

Never thought about that, but yes! However, the only thing this does now is unlock the doors, just in case your keys are in the car for any reason. If they do so for starting cars as well, THEN this will come into play! And when that happens, there could be drunk driving shortages if they can't remember their code.

And since calling the dealership won't help them.... see, it works!

10^4 = 100,000. You have that much of a chance to perfectly guess the pass code.


You do realise it's only 5 buttons, right?

5 buttons, 10 numbers. 1-2 3-4 5-6 7-8 9-0. 10 numbers with a 4-digit code. 10^4 = 10,000 fixed XD

Yea, I remember seeing one of these the other day at the grocery store, had parked next to one and wondered what it was for, now I know.

This would work a lot better if a code was also used to start the engine


Some cars just have a button that you push to start the engine. It would also be more secure if you needed the passcode and your fingerprint to unlock the doors.

It's as if they thought that keys weren't secure enough so they tried a button, but failed horribly...huh.

who cares how many NUMBER combinations you can make? all that matters is button combinations. 5 buttons, 4 digits, so 5^4. there are 625 combinations, not 10,000. l2math

lol there are lots of combinations as Mike said, so if the thief tried to break into your car they would have to trie every combination there is and by that time i would be back to my car with my gun in his face
