Titles self explanatory from what I've heard uncle Sam is like an American mascot? What is his story, life and when did people start to idolize him?

Instead of looking it up on google I want to know what ArmorGames think about this. If this is a repeat thread sorry.

He's just that... an American mascot, more specifically, a military drafting campaign. As far as I know, he was never real.

More specificly before the 40s or 20s I know he was trying to get people into WWII for sure.

He is the 'uncle' of America. I don't really know why he is, he just is.

He's a fidget of some guy's imagination that he decided to make up and he has great quotes.

That makes him the brother of one of our founding fathers.

Wow, not even I found my joke funny.

Just propaganda really, but he was before the 20's I believe. Once I saw a poster of him on it regarding imperilism in China and the Boxer Rebellion, so 10's I think.

Uncle Sam is the national personification of the United States. You go search that up for yourself.

Anyway, sources attributed him to being named after a meat packer who supplied meat to the army, Samuel Wilson, back in 1812. Though, no one really knows if this is true, and it is likely that it's not.

Oh, and the all famous recruitment poster originated in 1917, painted by James Montgomery Flagg.

Lol, since you are going to get many different responses (probably) you probably should just google it XD

Anyway, Uncle Sam is a propaganda figure, made up by an artist whose purpose is to recruit people into the USA military. He is supposed to appeal to the patriotic side of Americans, he is usually drawn in a suit and top hat with the American flag colors on all of his clothes. Has a long white beard, and he is white, tall and skinny lol.
I THINK he was first used during WWI... but it may have been earlier. He was also really popular in WWII, and is sometimes even used by artists today, but as ironic symbolism for anti-imperialism, and I am sure there may still be some current recruiting posters with ol' Uncle sam on there lol

All I know about him really.

While he only appeared in images back in WWI, (the poster by J.M. Flagg)he already existed before that.

Though he's mainly known for those propaganda images.

Whose uncle Sam?

It's MY Uncle Sam! Not yours or anyone's, but MINE >

*cough*

Others say the personification of Uncle Sam was a jibed version of Sam Slick, one of the Canadian mascots. That can be a debate for another time, or not, since none of us really know him and we would just google out of our butts until one of the parties win XD
