My personal favourite Alternative band will always be The Flaming Lips, I love how they are always playing with different styles! Wayne Coyne is probably one of the people I'd like to meet for sure!
My fave will always be the alt-rock/indie fusion band Modes Mouse. They're my 2nd favorite band ever, and they sure as hell know how to craft a good song - fantastic instrumentals, probably the best lyrics of any band ever. Their style's changed a lot since their first album, but they've remained solid on all counts.
Flaming Lips is good too, but they've declined sharply since The Soft Bulletin. I don't know if they'll ever best it.

In my last post I talked about older bands but I think alt-rock (at least in Britain) has had a bit of a Rennaissance so to speak...... Franz FErdinand and Arctic Monkeys are two of the msot refreshing bands I ahve listened to in years.
I'd have to disagree with you there, Alt. They are still as strong as ever, if not stonger! Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots and Embryonic are both great recordings, with the former being my favourite Lips album so far!
Since everyone's giving song-links for their bands, I should probably do so too. The following are some Flaming Lips tracks you won't soon regret listening to!
Eh, I preferred their Soft Bulletin stuff. Although their other stuff isn't bad, soft bulletin was a masterpiece, whereas their other albums were just good.
