Since I have been moderating the "Metal Bands World Cup" with a lot of fun,
it gave me an idea...

Why not do the same for the 'Classic Rock Bands' from all over the world?!

So, with credits to Agent_AAS for giving me the idea, here it is!!!

Ladieeeeeeees aaaaaaaaaaand gentlemeeeeeeeeen, we proudly present to you, the

_______________________________________________________________________
### CLASSIC ROCK BANDS WORLD CUP !!! ###
_______________________________________________________________________

The format of this World Cup for Classical Rock Bands is based upon the organisation schematics
of the Soccer World Cup, same as the "Metal Bands World Cup" was made. It has the same rules
as the Soccer Cup in terms of proceeding through, but it will follow a few rules of its own too.
To elaborate the >binding rules< for this competition:

# The Group stage:
-There will be 8 different groups presented in the thread, one at a time, and each group will
be consisting of 5 Classical Rock Bands that will be pre-selected by me or one of the co-mods.
-Every user of Armor Games has the power to give one point with one vote for one band only.
So you only get to vote for one band in a group, no double voting for a single band or
voting for more than one band per group. No exceptions will be made in this matter.
-When one of the bands in a particular group reaches the 10 points limit, the voting for that
group is over and that group will be closed for voting by me or one of the co-mods. Both the
'group winner' and the 'runner up' band will proceed to the knockout stage of this World Cup.
-If two bands will reach the 10 points limit at the same time in a group, the band that reached
the 10 points limit first, will automatically be declared 'group winner' and the band that
reached the 10 points limit secondly, will automatically be declared 'runner up'.
This rule also applies for the second place in the group. If two bands reach a similar point
count for second place at the same time, the band reaching this point count first, will then
automatically be declared 'runner up'. Remaining bands will be eliminated of the competition.
Again, no discussions about the outcome are allowed, should this situation occur in a group.

The Knockout Stage:
-After completing the Group stage, the 'group winner' of the first group will be up against the
'runner up' of the second group. The 'group winner' of the second group will be up against the
'runner up' of the first group. This scedule will be followed for the rest, to clarify:
#1 Group A vs. #2 Group B (Winning band is called 'Winner I'
#1 Group B vs. #2 Group A (Winning band is called 'Winner II'
#1 Group C vs. #2 Group D (Winning band is called 'Winner III'
#1 Group D vs. #2 Group C (Winning band is called 'Winner IV'
#1 Group E vs. #2 Group F (Winning band is called 'Winner V'
#1 Group F vs. #2 Group E (Winning band is called 'Winner VI'
#1 Group G vs. #2 Group H (Winning band is called 'Winner VII'
#1 Group H vs. #2 Group G (Winning band is called 'Winner VIII'
-Like in the famous 'Battle of the Bands thread', you (again) get to vote once for one band only.
-When one of the bands in this knockout battle reaches the limit of 10 points first, that band is
declared the winner of the match and will proceed to the next stage in the competition.

The 1/4 Finals:
-The next stage, the 1/4 finals, will be held in this order:
# Winner I vs. Winner V
# Winner II vs. Winner VI
# Winner III vs. Winner VII
# Winner IV vs. Winner VIII
-When one of the bands in these 1/4 final battles reaches the limit of 10 points first, that band
is declared the winner of the match and will proceed to the next stage in the competition.

The Semi Finals:
-The semi finals will be held in the order of:
# Winner I/V vs. Winner II/VI
# Winner III/VII vs. Winner IV/VIII
-When one of the bands in these Semi Finals battles reaches the limit of 10 points first, that
band is declared the winner of the match and will proceed to the next stage in the competition.

The 'Shadow Final':
-A number three and four is decided in a match between both 'losing' bands from the semi finals.
Again, the ranking of third and fourth place in this Final is decided upon the band that reaches
the 10 points limit first.

The Final match:
-The Final match is held between both winning bands from the semi finals.
-When one of the bands in the Final reaches the limit of 10 points first, that band is declared
the winner of the competition and is crowned The 'CRBWC' Champion 2010.
-The remaining band is ranked #2 in this competition.

# Further rules for this competition:
-You can only vote once per group and only once per knockout battle
-You are obligated to give a good reasoning on why you choose the band to get your vote.
('They are the best' or 'I like them' is not accepted as a reasoning.)
-There will be NO playoffs held in this competition.
-You don't get to complain when 'your band' is eliminated from the competition.
-Swearing and obscene language is not tolerated. Always respect the opinion(s) of the other users
participating in this thread, even if you disagree on their reasoning.
-The 'Armor Games Community Forum Rules and Regulations' and the 'Battle of the ... Thread Rules'
are to be followed for this 'Classic Rock Bands World Cup'. They will be referred to when needed.
You can find them here:

@ wajor59 : LOL Just to state the more obvious here... yes you DID just say that!!! XD

@ slayguy8 : Sure you can still vote for Journey! The battle isn't decided (and thus closed) yet! But delossantosj is correct, the rules of voting in this competition are clear: you need to state a reasoning to get your vote counted in the score... so if you add this, we're glad to include yours in the score update!

But for now the score remains at:

1/4 Final # III:

KISS - 9
Journey - 2

They're one vote short of winning this battle, but somehow Journey keeps gathering votes! Even if it's at a slow pace, still... will this battle be over soon? We'll know when YOU know who to vote for! =D

@ slayguy8 : it's still a little thin, but I'll count it anyway! It's not likely that they will manage to gain enough votes before KISS will get their final and winning vote, so...

Updated score shows:

1/4 Final # III:

KISS - 9
Journey - 3

Allright now people... it's been pretty slow (more VERY SLOW) lately in votes coming in!!!

So grab that keyboard and vote for your favorite band in this battle!!! =D

I'm going to go with Kiss. I like them a lot better, with their more edgier and harder kinda rock style. I'm also a big fan of Journey but Kiss gets my vote ftw!

To: Slayguy,
I felt the need to share some Kiss luv with ya!

I'm not picking on you but there is a reason why, for all of us who've seen Kiss live, that for us, Gene Simmons puts the R O C K into rock! Journey, like I think you were saying is softer, more melodic which is great but soft doesn't represent ROCK!

Hey, MrDayCee, we got a winner! KISS is the winner! Let's move on to a new matchup already. Wajor, I have to debate with you. Gene Simmons doesn't put the R O C K in rock; every member - past and present - of the band does that, especially Paul Stanley's screaming vocals, Gene Simmons' pumping bass, Ace Frehley's sreaching guitar, and Peter Criss' pounding drumming!

You're right Fry, but it seems I checked the thread just before the winning vote came in yesterday!
But now it's officially over with KISS as the winner! Final score is:

1/4 Final # III:

KISS - 10 - Winner!

Journey - 3 - Eliminated...

===========================================================

And we'll move on right away to the next battle, before Fry and wajor get tangled up in another big debate on which band member of KISS actually put the R O C K in ROCK... LOL =P

1/4 Final #IV:

Van Halen -vs.- Lynyrd Skynyrd

Now let's get this battle started and see who will be the last addition to the coming 1/2 Finals of this competition! Everyone ready?

On your marks... get set... ready... steady... eddie... VOTE!!! =D

Seriously? This is a competition?? Skynyrd all the way man. Their mix of rockabilly, blues, and rock helped to define an era! The soulful vocals, phenomenal guitar riffs, and the electricity felt in their songs is inspiring. Van Halen did make a great impact on the rock of their time, but I wouldn't consider their impact to be even close to on par with that of those raggedy boys from 'bama.

i hate skynyrd so much. thee horrible and annoying.

and mr. walker thats highly debatable cause of how well eddie ALONE impacted the music industry. let along alex and david lee roth all together. they were PHENOMINAL. the raw talent that david had in his singing was absolutly inspiring. although i will admit eddie had his problems, and david was a prick, they are EASILY top five most talented bands of the 80's. and i mean overall talent, it just seamed like skynyrd was all guitar and that was it.

so obviously my vote goes to van halen if you dont already know

Perhaps, but let's look at some numbers here. World wide, as of 2007, Van Halen had sold ~80 million albums. By that same time Skynyrd had sold, world wide, over 300 million, over 3x as many albums. That tells me right there who is having an impact, and let's not forget that the members of Skynyrd died in October of 1977, when Van Halen were still just pups.

true true, but i just think skynyrd is HIGHLY overrated. sure they are like one of the only succesfull southern rock bands but thats because a good 98% of the time southern rock sucks botty

lol that could very well be true XD I know this thread is mostly preference, but I typically like just about every band on here so personally I resort to statistics to make up my mind, i'm just a nerd like that I suppose.

True, but regardless of the style of rock the album sales I posted for Skynyrd are world wide. They may be overplayed here in the US, and the stereotypical southern rock group, but numbers don't lie and 300 million albums sold is a heck of a lot.
