Since I have been moderating the "Metal Bands World Cup" with a lot of fun,
it gave me an idea...

Why not do the same for the 'Classic Rock Bands' from all over the world?!

So, with credits to Agent_AAS for giving me the idea, here it is!!!

Ladieeeeeeees aaaaaaaaaaand gentlemeeeeeeeeen, we proudly present to you, the

_______________________________________________________________________
### CLASSIC ROCK BANDS WORLD CUP !!! ###
_______________________________________________________________________

The format of this World Cup for Classical Rock Bands is based upon the organisation schematics
of the Soccer World Cup, same as the "Metal Bands World Cup" was made. It has the same rules
as the Soccer Cup in terms of proceeding through, but it will follow a few rules of its own too.
To elaborate the >binding rules< for this competition:

# The Group stage:
-There will be 8 different groups presented in the thread, one at a time, and each group will
be consisting of 5 Classical Rock Bands that will be pre-selected by me or one of the co-mods.
-Every user of Armor Games has the power to give one point with one vote for one band only.
So you only get to vote for one band in a group, no double voting for a single band or
voting for more than one band per group. No exceptions will be made in this matter.
-When one of the bands in a particular group reaches the 10 points limit, the voting for that
group is over and that group will be closed for voting by me or one of the co-mods. Both the
'group winner' and the 'runner up' band will proceed to the knockout stage of this World Cup.
-If two bands will reach the 10 points limit at the same time in a group, the band that reached
the 10 points limit first, will automatically be declared 'group winner' and the band that
reached the 10 points limit secondly, will automatically be declared 'runner up'.
This rule also applies for the second place in the group. If two bands reach a similar point
count for second place at the same time, the band reaching this point count first, will then
automatically be declared 'runner up'. Remaining bands will be eliminated of the competition.
Again, no discussions about the outcome are allowed, should this situation occur in a group.

The Knockout Stage:
-After completing the Group stage, the 'group winner' of the first group will be up against the
'runner up' of the second group. The 'group winner' of the second group will be up against the
'runner up' of the first group. This scedule will be followed for the rest, to clarify:
#1 Group A vs. #2 Group B (Winning band is called 'Winner I'
#1 Group B vs. #2 Group A (Winning band is called 'Winner II'
#1 Group C vs. #2 Group D (Winning band is called 'Winner III'
#1 Group D vs. #2 Group C (Winning band is called 'Winner IV'
#1 Group E vs. #2 Group F (Winning band is called 'Winner V'
#1 Group F vs. #2 Group E (Winning band is called 'Winner VI'
#1 Group G vs. #2 Group H (Winning band is called 'Winner VII'
#1 Group H vs. #2 Group G (Winning band is called 'Winner VIII'
-Like in the famous 'Battle of the Bands thread', you (again) get to vote once for one band only.
-When one of the bands in this knockout battle reaches the limit of 10 points first, that band is
declared the winner of the match and will proceed to the next stage in the competition.

The 1/4 Finals:
-The next stage, the 1/4 finals, will be held in this order:
# Winner I vs. Winner V
# Winner II vs. Winner VI
# Winner III vs. Winner VII
# Winner IV vs. Winner VIII
-When one of the bands in these 1/4 final battles reaches the limit of 10 points first, that band
is declared the winner of the match and will proceed to the next stage in the competition.

The Semi Finals:
-The semi finals will be held in the order of:
# Winner I/V vs. Winner II/VI
# Winner III/VII vs. Winner IV/VIII
-When one of the bands in these Semi Finals battles reaches the limit of 10 points first, that
band is declared the winner of the match and will proceed to the next stage in the competition.

The 'Shadow Final':
-A number three and four is decided in a match between both 'losing' bands from the semi finals.
Again, the ranking of third and fourth place in this Final is decided upon the band that reaches
the 10 points limit first.

The Final match:
-The Final match is held between both winning bands from the semi finals.
-When one of the bands in the Final reaches the limit of 10 points first, that band is declared
the winner of the competition and is crowned The 'CRBWC' Champion 2010.
-The remaining band is ranked #2 in this competition.

# Further rules for this competition:
-You can only vote once per group and only once per knockout battle
-You are obligated to give a good reasoning on why you choose the band to get your vote.
('They are the best' or 'I like them' is not accepted as a reasoning.)
-There will be NO playoffs held in this competition.
-You don't get to complain when 'your band' is eliminated from the competition.
-Swearing and obscene language is not tolerated. Always respect the opinion(s) of the other users
participating in this thread, even if you disagree on their reasoning.
-The 'Armor Games Community Forum Rules and Regulations' and the 'Battle of the ... Thread Rules'
are to be followed for this 'Classic Rock Bands World Cup'. They will be referred to when needed.
You can find them here:
Armor Games Community Forum Rules and Regulations
Battle of the ... Thread Rules

Oh, but Mr.Walker, let us not forget that not all of Lynyrd Skynyrd band members died on that plane and that the band is still alive and kicking after all of these decades, "crank it up...Big Wheels keep on turning,..."
I vote for Lynyrd Skynyrd and I would if I was the only fan on earth! I love the vocals, the guitars, the piano is probably my favorite instrument of this band because the honky-tonk piano rifts combines the blues to the jazz and the drummer is awesome because he adds the funk to the rock and makes it all so great to listen to, dance to, chat to or pay the concert rate and see 'm live!

Allright... Lynyrd Skynyrd takes the lead, but I'll undo that right away and bring Van Halen back alongside of them to make it a tie! =D

It's nice to see a good discussion about which of the two bands in this battle is best, but there are some debatable arguments that haven't been pointed out yet!

So I'll start my rampage here... It's true that Lynyrd Skynyrd might have sold more albums worldwide (over 31 million and counting, don't know where you got the 300 number from?!) than Van Halen (over 80 million and counting), but I think it's pretty thin when you look at what that number is based upon! Where Lynyrd Skynyrd only has 2 songs to build upon, 'Sweet Home Alabama' and 'Free Bird' -they never made it to the #1 position- and Van Halen has 13 #1 hits on the "Billboard Mainstream Rock chart" to counter that! They also reached the number one position on the "US Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart", something Lynyrd Skynyrd never managed to do (yet).
Also an incredible new sound was introduced by Eddie Van Halen, whose innovative awesome 'two-handed-tapping technique' made him the most influential guitarist since Jimi Hendrix, compared to Lynyrd Skynyrd who only had a 'three guitar synchronised front' to stand for...
This all makes me choose Van Halen over Lynyrd Skynyrd every time, no matter what tragically happened (and a big round of applause for them to still continue rocking our world!) back on the late 70's... so my vote goes to VAN HALEN! They simply rule!

Score shows a tie now:

1/4 Final #IV:

Van Halen - 2
Lynyrd Skynyrd - 2

Anyone want to debate further? Or simply vote for one of these two GREAT bands?! VOTE PEOPLE!!!

i swear to god theres only like two artists i can name off the top of my head that have been successfull as southern rock and thats ted nugent who i think should be president (not literally i just think hes a bad ***) and linard skynyrd are are far more overrated for 2 songs then any other
What about the Allman Brothers Band?

I'll cast my vote for Van Halen. I'm a big fan of Eddie's guitar-work and besides a few songs, I haven't heard much from Lynyrd Skynyrd. I like Van Halen a little better, but don't get me wrong, I like both of these bands very well.

I'm going to have to go with Van Halen on this one. Mostly because I'm more of a fan of their style of music versus southern/swamp music. Not saying that I don't like southern/swamp music, of course.

Two more votes for Van Halen and they're taking the lead! They're pulling away slightly, but there's still enough room and time for Lynyrd Skynyrd to catch up and make it a tie again...

Score now shows:

1/4 Final #IV:

Van Halen - 4
Lynyrd Skynyrd - 2

Will you decide this last 1/4 Final?! Maybe... =D

AND ERNIE!!! Where have you been?!?!? Please comment on my profile or send me an email (see my about) on what's been going on?! 0_o

I'll go with Lynyrd Skynyrd. The band was - and still is - the definition of southern rock, and arguably one of the greatest American bands of all-time. Van Halen is good, but they spiraled too far into synth and glam. Lynyrd Skynyrd played rock simple and loud - and the results were amazing.

And Lynyrd Skynyrd is closing the gap a little more! =D

I'd love to count chaotix567's vote, but I need a little more elaboration on it... sorry... :/

Score update now shows:

1/4 Final #IV:

Van Halen - 4
Lynyrd Skynyrd - 3

Let's keep this battle interesting people!!!
Keep voting for these two great bands!!!

Your vote might make the difference here...

Ummm . . . I'm not really a fan of Van Halen, but Lynyrd has the potential to be pleasant, and songs like Free Bird are obviously classics. So I'll go for them.

VAN HALEN!!! Whats better than Eddie Van Halens crazy guitar solo's, Alex's loud drum beat, and David's random sexual noises? Lynard Skynard is pretty boring and I just about fall asleep whenever I hear them

My vote will go for Lynyrd Skynyrd. I like the lead singer's voice a bit better, plus they have two incrediably famous songs in free bird and Sweet home Alabama. Lynyrd Skynyrd all the way.

no offense but this is the strangest combination of words ive ever seen.

ok david lee roth was one of the, if not the, most talented singers in rock HISTORY. hes probably number two only behind freddie murcury.

and thats the thing, lynyrd skynyd only had 2 big songs and they werent even as big as some of van halens hits which by the way had FAR MORE hits then skynyrd.... so ok whatev.... your oppinion (i jsut think that your reasoning was kind of strange)

NICE! Even more votes are coming in and it's beginning to look like a proper battle with the two bands countering votes one after the other! This is how a battle should go! =D

@ delossantosj : I think waluigi means 'with' instead of 'in', I understood what he meant anyway...

Even though my heart aches when I see a potential (and with that a 'little personal' loss for Van Halen here, it DOES keep the adrenaline going and makes me hope for some miracle in this battle! :/

Score now shows a tie:

1/4 Final #IV:

Van Halen - 5
Lynyrd Skynyrd - 5

Who will come up on top in this battle?! Tension rises, sweatty palms, ooohhh.... VOTE PEOPLE!!!
