"Glaciologically, ice age implies the presence of extensive ice sheets in the northern and southern hemispheres;[1] by this definition we are still in an ice age (because the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets still exist).[2]...

End of the very first paragraph. Says it all right there.

Meh it has been brought up before by a very inteligent and cool and (ok it was me) it is a strange idea. But anyway I don;t think an extensive "Global" ice age is on the cards any time soon. Though if the salinity of the north atlantic decreses too much the gulf stream will shift and North -western Europe (that unfortuenatly means me) will get colder.

Huhh, very good question.

You can't know what's waiting for you at the next corner.

It can happen, but I think I won't live when it happens, so I'm not afraid. And sometimes it will, I think.
Nobody knows...

sounds hard to believe, with all the news of climate change today (especially global warming), i always believe the earth cant stay any colder (as in it wont go cold). An ice age is a huge leap for today's temperature. If that would happen, i dont know whether i should freak out, or finally feel relieved that the earth is getting cooler.

Not likely. If the polar ice caps melt it won't be an ice age it will be a global flood.

Well, considering how long Earth has left until the sun implodes. I would say that there probably will be.

If it does happen then its gona be some freak accident billions of years from now. If the earth is still here then.

It feels like it's already started in Melbourne this week.

But I always thought it was all cyclic. Wont it cool down and heat up many many times before earth is gone?

If you're referring to the kind of ice age in which the entire planet is covered in ice, yes its going to happen because its a cycle that the earth goes through to 'cleanse' its self and according to science in a couple of trillion years, both the sun and the core of the earth will run out of fuel killing the entire solar system except for perhaps venus because of its heavy layer of clouds and such, but if in a trillion years humanity is still around and has not found a way to establish colonies in other solar systems, I've lost all hope for them.

I highly doubt humanity is capable of that. Come on, we spend so much of our resources killing each other off we'll never be able to get that far unless we end the idiocy.

Earth has had many ice ages. It's a cycle that it goes through. Of course there will be another one, but the problem is knowing when it will happen.

well how do we get the 4 seasons?

wellll.
from the creationists point of view:

God is in a big kitchen called the "The Galaxy" and he puts his cake, called "earth" inside an oven and goes to sleep. So that is summer, and then the timer goes off at 3 months, and God sleeps through it he wakes up 6 months later, and the earth is blistering. He throws the "Earth" cake in the fridge. That is when it gets cold and there is winter. The cycle starts all over again. Sometimes for instance a few hundred million years ago, God forgot to take the cake out of the fridge and put it in the oven, that is the Ice age period.

how is that for them Christian Creationist Young Earth believers
