The point of this thread is both for fun and for an actually intelligent debate.

Basically the point is to rebuttal a quote with another quote; NO original points can be used but agreement and what not doesn't need to be quoted from somewhere.

Make sure you give the author of the quote credit and, if possible, link to any anonymous quotes you find to prove their actual quotes.

Anyway I'll start it off.

A young man who wishes to remain a sound atheist cannot be too careful of his reading.

NO original points can be used
So it's like every other religion thread on AG?

All life is only a set of pictures in the brain, among which there is no difference betwixt those born of real things and those born of inward dreamings, and no cause to value the one above the other.

-H. P. Lovecraft

I think this just renders all argument moot.

A man can no more diminish God's glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word, 'darkness' on the walls of his cell.

ROFL Xzeno!

First off...

The belief that some Cosmic Jewish Zombie can make you live forever if you simbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him that you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that it present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree.

Second, almost similar,

4. Jesus 14 up, 20 down
buy jesus mugs, tshirts and magnetsThe immortal zombie carpenter who, if you ask him nicely through his telepathic powers, will grant your wishes. He is one third of an almighty being who was sent to earth to be killed mercilessly so that said almighty being could forgive us for something he made us do, something which, being almighty, shouldn't have been quite so troublesome in the first place. In addition to asking politely, some believe it is necessary to indulge in cannibalism, eating Jesus' flesh, to be forgiven and go to heaven. Physically, Jesus may have looked similar to Jim Morrison, although many would contend he was in fact black.
Friend: I'm going to go eat some of Jesus and ask him and his father not to send me to eternal damnation for something my great great great etc. grandparents did.

And finaly, third

Bible 3074 up, 1933 down
buy bible mugs, tshirts and magnetsThe Bible is probably the best book ever. You can use it as a coaster, hit people with it, look funny and quote it, eat the pages, fire fuel, toilet paper, start a war, control the stoopid people of the world, read it and become president, Hanaukkah present, piss off the Muslims, and turn back the clock.

Yeah no.

It's for debating not flaming.

Good try though.

A question, as many open ended quotes are open to interpretation, how would you know if it is a successful rebuttal?

To samy's last quote
For example:

Human history becomes more and more often a race between education and catastrophe

I happen to think this works nicely if you think about it correctly, but others might not.

Didn't feel like writing your name again.

The point isn't to grab random quotes but to actually debate with them.

You don't just rant about random things on other topics.

How about a religious knock-knock joke?

Knock, knock
Who's there?
God
God who?
You have lost your faith. There is but one God.

Gets Christians every time.

The basic premise of the argument is that a bunch of parts will never randomly assemble into the correct arrangement to form a properly functioning complex. Once again, creationists / ID supporters miss the basic concept of evolution entirely. No biologists believes, nor is there any evidence that complex systems form spontaneously in one fell swoop. That would be creation. Systems evolve through many intermediates, one step at a time, slowly building up the complexity.

The very idea of freedom presupposes some objective moral law which overarches rulers and ruled alike. Subjectivism about values is eternally incompatible with democracy. We and our rulers are of one kind only so long as we are subject to one law. But if there is no Law of Nature, the ethos of any society is the creation of its rulers, educators and conditioners; and every creator stands above and outside his own creation.
