Say you post a new topic. But you dont want to go back and forth every single time to look if someone has commented on it. Why dont we have an alert like in the control panel or something.

This is epic for lazy people! Lol, jk of course. :3

I like this idea. Maybe a little tiny pop-up next to your control panel link. (@ top right hand corner of your screen)

I like this. It'll be interesting to see what everyone else thinks.

Eh, I honestly wouldn't use it. CAn't you just post on a different topic and see if your topic is the most recent post?

It would only slow the server down.
Seriously, if you want to check a thread, what's stopping you from going to check? Pure laziness?

The point is so you don't have to click the subf link periodically to see if someone responded in your thread. That's all.

Ya we should like facebook

Doesn't FB just send annoying E-Mails when you get a comment on your wall? AG doesn't need to resort to that.

Nope. Just pops up at the bottom of the screen.

There are some people who have created many, many topics in the forum, and to have this feature could end up as a burden to them to keep having that one little thing popping up at the bottom of their screen for every time someone posts in one of their many topics.

There are also those who have created threads that are popular enough for people to reply to them every day constantly. To get that message from the same thread even 10 times a day would be annoying, so think how they'd feel if the topic got over 100 replies in one day. And that mostly happens with off-topic discussions, so it would really kill the person's computer to have all these messages at the bottom of the screen popping up at once.

The biggest downside to all of that would be it would encourage more people to not make threads, and then the forum would die from a lack of active topics.

couldn't you just mark if you wanted to watch said topic?

Steps:

1. Make a thread in Popular Media.
2. Two hours later, enter the popular media section.
3. Look at views/replies and last post. Replies: 2. Views: 16. Last post: Knight_34.
Congratulations, you have two replies to your topic!

Also, for the messenger, if you have comment notify turned on and a Yahoo adress set as your email or one that goes through MS outlook etc a notice will appear in the bottom of your screen when a comment is recieved.

Stop being lazy, checking a thread isn't hard. If you are making more threads than you can actually keep up with, then you are a spammer and you should stop doing that shit so much.

What Klaus said. Pretty much.
You don't have to reply to every other post in the topic, it is just collecting all the things you reply to, and post it together. This is easier done if you don't go to the thread every time someone posts. Besides, does it really matter of people reply to your topic or not? It should be easy to follow, and if you are afraid of losing track of it, you should bookmark the thread. It's not that problematic.

This right here is a much better idea. Several forums have a "watch this thread" function, and while I'm not active enough on other forums to really care, I would like it here.

I don't have a problem keeping up with the threads I want to, and I don't even have any bookmarked. A bookmark folder could help you if you do have a lot of threads you want to keep an eye on.
But being able to watch an interesting thread and getting a link to it somehow when there's fresh replies, hey, it's not strictly needed, but it might improve the experience of the use of the forum for some.

Notification every time someone posts in any thread you created: No. Reasons stated in this thread.
Ability to "watch" any thread you want for new replies: Maybe? It's not needed, but if the devs ever have spare time it's not exactly useless either.

If the devs ever have spare time... Hah.

There's still no way of predicting how many replies you'll get, and say it gets over 100 in a day, your computer will be crushed by all of those laggy little icons popping up at the bottom of your screen.

Besides, the forums aren't really very active these days anyway. It shouldn't be hard to find your thread if it gets a reply, because it should be on the front page of that particular section of the forum.

Think about it though, what if you have a stickied topic? Do you know how many replies you'd get? And the alerts would be a pain D:

I'm sorry but in most forums I saw, an email was sent EVERYTIME someone post on a thread you opened and/or everytime someone posted after you in a topic. The mail contains an hyperlink to quickly go to the posts.
If you're afraid of being overflooded by mail, just create a rule in your favorite webmail or whatever you use to organize the answers.
It's a service mods offers or not.

I would appreciate it on this forum because it's quite handy... or at least a forum search but that's another problem ^^
