Say you post a new topic. But you dont want to go back and forth every single time to look if someone has commented on it. Why dont we have an alert like in the control panel or something.
There shouldn't be an icon for every single reply. Just a list of your marked threads that have gotten new replies.
I'm rather tired of the lag excuse, even though it is a good one. AG's forums are rather feature poor compared to others. This will very likely be alleviated by AG 3.0
I don't think we need a thread watching mechanism right now. Unlikely other forums, this one isn't too active. If in the future, our forums become much more active, this will be something to consider.

That is the best idea ever and AG should do it! Just like I've said many times before!
And I've also said before how ridiculous it is for everyone to bash the idea since this is something EVERY FORUM DOES!
How can you people seriously have no understanding of this? "It would be annoying to get emails"? How would it be annoying to have THE OPTION of getting emails? You even get the option of choosing which threads you want to be emailed about. Also you only get ONE email no matter how many people have replied! That's how it works on every forum that does this, which is almost all of them!
Cheers to Zophia and bijnok for having some sense.
Thank TTD. In fact, such a system makes you gain time. I idn't realize before, but you spen so much time searching for the topic you where the day before... especially with no information retrieval engine...

I don't know about this idea, but I can't figure out why you'd put it in the control panel. People don't check there much.
Stop being lazy, checking a thread isn't hard. If you are making more threads than you can actually keep up with
I'm going to stop you there, as the rest is meaningless to my reply. You have a point, as most users should be keeping tabs on as many threads as they can keep in their mind. And yes, you shouldn't make too many threads. I've made 2 his month, and the other months I basically haven't made any. If one users makes a thread on the forums, we'd have about 1000 threads spread through 11 forums, which is a lot, and many of those threads die quickly.
Also, look at it this way:
Imagine if you got an email or notification for every post on 'Rate the Above user'. Even one post an hour can clutter you up a lot. Unless you think this should be organized differently...
Tell us how you see this feature working, Tennisman.
Firstly, I have to reiterate the fact that this is not needed right now. Our forums aren't busy enough. If they were this would be a nifty feature, as threads you want to keep track of would be constantly pushed back due to new posts and threads.
who says every forum is doing the right thing?
Who says we are doing the right thing?
Having a "watch thread" feature will surely improve our browsing experience. And if many other message boards have this without pain, why can't we? Possibly this will come with AG 3.0. If it ever comes, it will with AG 3.0. Implementing it with the current version would be a waste of time.
And I think that Tennisman's original proposition is flawed. Having an alert for every single post is a bad idea. There should simply be a list of threads you marked, which have new replies.
I think this should also go for comments.. like if someone comments on your profile.. you have a little alert thing next to your name or whatever.. Just an idea though.
I agree with knight, Zophia and TTD. When, in the future, the forums get really busy, an email option makes sense to me. For now? No because if you check the forums before you login then you can research, play games, check your profile and get on with your life.
I am doubting what you are saying. If the forums (not here on 2.0, possibly on 3.0) become ridiculously active, it will be very necessary to use tracking so the threads you are watching don't get lost in an abyss.
I understand what you say K34 (do you ind if I call you this?), this isn't meant to be right know but we can still discuss of the different solutions so it'll hopefully be easier later. Also, the earlier it'll be set in place, the easiest it'll be I think because when there are not a lot of topics it's easy to test and to modify and you can also make quick statistics on how many people use it, how often etc... and it's easy to take into considerations what people say about it whereas when there are too many people it's unmanageable...
You're right about putting it in early if it ever does get put in. Perhaps this could be included in a revised list of suggestions. The official suggestions list hasn't been updated in a long time, and so many suggestions have been scattered around. Keep this in mind until beta testing begins. It could be tried out.
And yes you can call me K34. I'm referred to as Knight, knight_34 and K34.
The answer to EVERYTHING anyone wants implemented to the site is maybe in the future. AG was made from scratch, and once it is decided that they can start adding new fun features instead of essential things this may be implemented.
Yes, if AG booms in popularity on the forums this will be needed.
Firstly, I have to reiterate the fact that this is not needed right now. Our forums aren't busy enough.
I thought that too, and forgot to write it. It's useful for big, active forums, not productive, slow forums like the on on AG. I admit, I like it that way...
I think this should also go for comments.. like if someone comments on your profile.. you have a little alert thing next to your name or whatever.. Just an idea though.
Thinking of the daily spam Firetail gets... I don't think he likes it when he gets '5000 new emails from AG' in a week.
If this function were implemented, it should only work for those who want to have it. Not everyone wants such a feature.
