Below is an email I just received. I honestly just freaked out about this.

Apparently 'they' think that putting hearts and butterflies on it will make most people not realize that the rest is Arabic and probably not something we want to support.

President Obama has directed the United States Postal Service to REMEMBER and HONOR the EID MUSLIM holiday season with a new commemorative 44-Cent First Class Holiday Postage Stamp. REMEMBER to adamantly & vocally BOYCOTT this stamp, when you are purchasing your stamps at the post office. All you have to say is "No thank you, I do not want that Muslim Stamp on my letters!" To use this stamp would be a slap in the face to all those AMERICANS who died at the hands of those whom this stamp honors.

If the picture didn't work, it has a butterfly, a stamp, and a muslim charecter in the middle. Like, nothing even remotly representing muslims being awesome.
It's essentially a Red Scare in Muslim form that's what it is. People turn to the bad things that have happened caused by people that are Muslim, and they automatically think that all of them are bad people. Have you heard of the things people in the U.S. did to resident Muslims or those with middle-eastern ethnicity during the weeks following 9/11? Horrible.

I disagree. After reading the email, it looks more like troll material. I doubt the original writer actually hated muslim people; he was just trying to elicit a response.
People don't write chain letters because they want to change the world, they do it because they want to be read. Saying something inflamatory increases the probability of someone forwarding it in order to express their outrage.
And if people agree with it, they will probably pass it on too. These letters are much more effective than the "if you don't forward this, a monster will eat you" variety.
I could be wrong; the original writer might actually be a paranoid xenophobe. But I doubt it.
Believe me, if I thought for one minute a member of AG was responsible for such drivel, I would have instigated a scathing ad hominem attack immediately. This isn't NG for christs' sake. We have standards of intelligence on here.
Skater, I love you too . . . but please gtho. The bombings weren't Muslim, they were Extremist. We have stamps celebrating Jewish holidays, Christian holidays, all of that . . . so why not a Muslim holiday? Because they're not so familiar to us? Hell no. Also, the stamp's been in existence since 2001. Really, what is the problem with this? The fact that extremists of this religion have been over-publicized?
So...what would we call this type of E-mail? Is religion involved in this, blind patriotism, or is this just mindless propaganda?
As my old Aussie history teacher used to say ''Same s*it different toilet''. I think it's just the run of the mill stereotyping and generalisation all Muslims have now come to expect of us 'tolerant' liberal democracies.
