Honestly, I am tired of having to say that a sequel to a good film or game is lame... for now on whenever you here "so how was.." you should answer with this, short and quick "sequel..".
When a movie is successful, why can't they just leave it alone? =)
Now for you: Your job is to list all the sequels that you can think of that were just as good, if not better than the original.
Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior - This is love one of my all-time faves, the first one is great too, but can't touch it's sequel.
Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn - This movie is pure lunacy! Probably the greatest horror comedy ever made. A nice step away from the dead-serious slasher that was the original.
Empire Strikes Back - My personal favourite of the Star Wars series, it is more exciting than the original, and the most important of the original trilogy in terms of character development. Plus, YODA!!!!!
Thats exatly how i feel especially if theres no plot reason to make a sequel. Take Avatar for example how on earth can they make a sequel out of that. Anyway good sequels: Xmen 2, LOTR TTT and the sequel to that LOTR TROTK. Thats all i can think of right now but im sure there are more.
No one has mentioned the trilogy of "The Hobbit", "The Fellowship of the Ring", and "The Return of the King"? If the movies are based on books it makes perfect since to make multiple movies. Otherwise I totally understand why you think Hollywood is picking our pockets with sequels to Shrek that we could practically write ourselves. Here's a few sequels that I think were better than the originals. "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly", the last of the "Man with No Name" triology, another Clint Eastwood flick, "Sudden Impact" from the "Dirty Harry" series, "Mad Max, Beyond Thunderdome", another Mel Gibson flick, "Lethal Weapon 4".
But if there's a great film, the film makers are bound to make another one hoping it will be as successful. And it works, when a sequel comes out to a film I've seen, I always watch it.
