Honestly, I am tired of having to say that a sequel to a good film or game is lame... for now on whenever you here "so how was.." you should answer with this, short and quick "sequel..".
When a movie is successful, why can't they just leave it alone? =)
Now for you: Your job is to list all the sequels that you can think of that were just as good, if not better than the original.
Sorry pal. But I must remind you of ALIENS. Way better than the scifi-horror ALIEN of the late 70's. Also some of the best characters ever displayed in a movie.

Someone mentioned 'The Dark Knight' however i only saw that movie to be half as good because the hype for the movie was only through heath and his passing.
As for me, i'm putting my money on Mortal Kombat when it gets released in 2013/14.
The movie is going to be amazing, it's already being hyped up 3 - 4 years prior. It's going to kick ass and make the previous movie back in the late 80's early 90's look really bad. Also not only are they superhumans, they take a more realistic approach on everything.
For me the issue is in whether or not the sequel was planned from the beginning. With LOTR, a sequel is almost guaranteed, although the studio could still shelf it under some extreme circumstances. This is because the movies are based off a series of books, and so the source material is already planned out for them in advance. Its like Tolkien already wrote up a rough draft of the movie script and tested it with audiences. Profit is guaranteed, and the material is well-written.
When a movie doesn't have good source material, sequels oftentimes reflect this. Even comic book movies can have horrible sequels if the goal is profit and not quality. I personally disliked The Dark Knight, and the most recent X-Men movies, although both have decades of awesome source material to run off of.

The Dark Knight seems to be popular among this thread. i agree it was very good, but i did like the first one better.
i also noticed that X:2 was mentioned. i liked it better than 1 and The Last Stand but not the Wolverine one (hoping to see First Class some time soon as well)
im surprised no one has said The Matrix: Reloaded yet. i know that a lot of people said the first was better but i disagree with that. i thought that reloaded was the best of the three but maybe thats just me.
the second Transformers movie was quite an experience for me; WARNING! stereotype approaching its had the three things guys like in an action movie: guns, explosions, and hot woman (thats men for ya ). i also liked the story around it too. (however it seems kinda like they didnt plan on making three movies, they just made up stuff in the second and third ones to try and tie them in to each other, but maybe thats just me also)
i have heard many good things about the second Hag-Over movie. i havent seen any critical reviews or anything like that, ive only talked with people who have. (my life is getting busy lately) its supposed to be a lot better than the first one, suposedly.

Infamous 2 is coming out soon. me and most of my friends have played the demo for it and 99% agree that it is better than the first one, by a whole lost of epic. i highly recommend getting the game even if u didnt get the first one (that is if u have a PS3) i think u will enjoy it a lot.
halo 2 was the buzz of the decade when it came out. everyone was like "oh yeah, this game is going to go far." and they were very right, for it has. not here to talk about the newest ones though, just 2. im a PS3 person but i know a good game when i see it. yeah i slander Halo all the time but i do really like the game. the second one is prob my favorite (although i have not played Reach, so its whatever)
the second Assassin's Creed game was also quite the buzz for that series when it came out. peoples was all like "YYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAYYYY" when it came out cuz the first one was really good and a lot of people actually wanted a squeal because it kicked so much rear-end. and look at it now; Brotherhood is one of my favorite games of all time and Revelations is looking to be even better!
those are the ones off the top of my head, i know a lot more but these are the ones i like the most =p
