Can someone try and explain what fire is to me? Sounds soft but its been troubling me as to describing it most people will respond with its properties or effects. But not an actual detailed and reasoned explanation of what it actually is. Peoples of old considered it an element something which cant be broken into other parts.
I dont want to make any further comment on my current thoughts on the subject till someone - hopefully. Makes it clearer for me!
Stop being a wuss and misleading the OP's conversation. It's Google that automatically types in 'what is fire?' and redirects you to the actual google.
I was told when you burn something, like a log what happens is that the fire burns a while and it's out. What's left? Charcoal. So what the fire is, is just all the stuff that was in the log that wasn't the charcoal. It totally makes sense to me!

Hey, there is an idea. Maybe you could make up a name for the "stuff" that dissapears? Something cool, like... "hlogiston."
One of my most favoritest sites, howstuffworks.com, always has very well-written and informative pieces. I thought I'd give a link. It has everything you need to know for a good understanding of what fire is:
what if i changed wikipedia to read Fire is a gift stolen from the gods, but handily portable for smokers. How many people would then be totally screwed.
