ok guys this is the thread to discuss what modern bands and artists will be considerd the "classic rock" in maybe 20 or so years.

fforme fall out boy will deffinatly be. they're legendary and completley made alternative music what it is today.

another band that will be more in britain then here is bloc party. with there ever changing sound in each album they are deffinatly the most diverse band in history.

avenged sevenfold will be also like them or not. they have a massive fan bass an rock stations play them and play them.

if incubus ever kisses and makes up and creates another hit album they will also be one of those bands

heres some starters tell youre own so i dont have to go through my massive music library

None of those bands will be considered "classic rock" because they're all based off of trends, which by nature don't last long. Perhaps Bloc Party, but all those -core bands sure as hell won't.

rise against probably yes.

ya thats all music. examples of the ages include the hippies (led zepplin, beatles, early rush), the hair bands (poisen, twisted sister, Dio) the early 90's gothic (the cure, Depechmode) grunge (nirvana, pearl jam, audio slave)

all of which will eventually be considerd classic rock and most of which already are.

another artist id like to add would be john mayer. amzing singer, amazing guitar player, amazing song writer and well deserved to be in the hall of fame in 15 years.

bring me the horizen wont for sure though XD funeral for a friend left the building like 2 years ago lol

People still remember and listen to the Who, Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, Rush, Queen, Bob Dylan etc. on a regular basis.

Almost no one listens to hair bands or grunge bands on a regular basis. That's because the 60s and 70s were a great innovative time for music, that was when bands were successful when they stood up to their record company and had 10 minute songs. Now bands are successful once they've sold ten million digital singles online.

That's why classic rock will forever be classic rock. Music trends will never replace classic rock (also, that's why it's friggin called "classic" rock, because it's CLASSIC!, not because it's old).

Also, shame, shame, SHAME, SHAME on you for daring to call Dio a "hair band". Especially when Ronnie just died last Sunday. The nerve.

Sabaton is a European legend in terms of metal. If they ever went to America, or other parts of the globe, they would be part of the classic rock hits once they retire.

Well there are different types of Alternative, I'm not a guy that put everything into a specific Genre but some is harder and faster. So I think that Pretty much all Alternative and some punk will be Classic.

This discussion is somewhat... open for discussion I believe! =P

The term "Classic Rock" is one used for Rock music from the 60's, 70's and 80's... where the 90's are already excluded from this comparison!

I think that it all depends on what the popular media (read: radio and TV jocks) will call the music from the 90's, 00's and 10's in the future... so whether that will be "Classic Rock" or something else is only to be guessed...

But for some suggestions for bands, I'd say: Audioslave, Pearl Jam, Paramore (watch them in the future!), Foo Fighters, Editors, Limb Bizkit and The Killers!

And because the bands suggested are more in the alternative scene of Rock music, I think the proper name to be used in the future will be "Alternative Rock"... =D
