Apparently the evil of Spam has stumbled onto this site. I've noticed many advertisements on game comment boards that are apparently by the same person. They're trying to get people to visit some clothing sight. Just thought I'd get the word out.

Okay AccountNumber 205, here's where you come in. You can help the staff out by referring the game where the spam is located. Show this to any mod and they will act immediately.

So, how you do this is show the game to the mod. Just give the URL of the game to the mod and they will act accordingly. You will be thanked appropriately

That's why all residents must have an extinguisher on them XD

I dunno, I wasn't there. If so, that would be even more dangerous. In the forums, it's wide open and people can see these easily. Even worse, they would spam/flame back.

Yes but on the forums it's much easier for the mods to see it. The easiest solution would just be to ban whoever was posting it.

Mmhm. The weird thing is, they always happen when there is no mod in sight XD

"Okay guys, there isn't any mod activity on the site for hours! Let's go spam advertisements about shoes socks and tees!"

But yeah... Since we figured out the problem and provided the solution for it, we may have to stop before we spam ourselves XD

How would they find out? It's not like the little red buttons on our profile work any more...

Please just make IP-bans. He will need a new IP adress to spam again, then you can just ban that other IP adress...

Some places have a single modem for many computers, if you ban the IP address you'd be banning a lot of people who've done nothing wrong.

You have to report the account and link to their offense directly to a mod, which means messaging them. Yes, the flag only works for admins, and they are too busy to worry about this kind of spam. Mods are better suited for this job.

That and proxies. It would be hilarious to know that a site that advertises Nike shoes uses proxies to advertise though.

Generally, if someone is making accounts for spamming advertisements (this is against the ToS, and if they have done nothing but that, they are removed from the site), they will get bored with this business sooner or later. They are doing it to gain more popularity on fx. Google, and that will not happen through AG, considering we remove the posts and comments whenever we find them. If nothing good is coming out of it besides having to make a new account to do nothing with again, they -might- end up stopping. On the other hand, they are paid to do this.

As for the reporting. Do this. Go find them, and give us mods a link to the places where you find them. They will be removed the moment we spot them.
This is also why you should NOT reply to such threads, for better or worse, because a long good reply makes it a lot harder to simply delete the thread all together.

This problem is only recent now. It doesn't generally happen (I can't remember it being this bad). Eventually like Cen said, the spammer will get bored and leave.

On the other hand, they are paid to do this.

This makes the problem harder and more complex, but not unstoppable. Do the mods a favor to make their life easier, and fag/report the advertisements. Though at the moment, I'm seeing it on Colony...

It does work. The flag reports to a database that the admins can access. Sadly, this does not include the mods, though it would help them greatly. So use the button.

I've taken the advice and reported Spam to the moderators. I agree with unlimitedpower in that this is pretty recent. The Spam just started popping up a week or two ago and it seems to be by one or two users. Maybe it'll stop there.
