Do you think you could spend 520 days with someone in the same room? Well astronaunts are preparing for a possible misson for mars and are having astronaunts prepare for it by just this very thing. They have no internet or tv.
What I found funny about it is, in the video it said they'll come out in 2011. But then the Mars misson will take 520 days to get there, spend a month and then come back.
1st day: Lift-off, they start conversation 5th day: Morale starts to decrease slightly, interest decreases 15th day: Conversation gets dull, turn to Rock Paper Scissors 50th day: Rock Paper Scissors gets old, resumes dull conversation 70th day: Sanity starts to unravel; crap that makes no sense starts to spew out of their mouths, loses track of the date 100th day: Sanity starts to unravel further, resumes Rock Paper Scissors 150th day: Sanity stops unraveling, depression starts 200th day: Suicidal thoughts now start to occur 250th day: Sanity starts to unravel again, starts to hallucinate 350th day: Claustrophobia starts to set in 365th day: 1 year in the spacecraft, doesn't even realize 450th day: Nervous breakdowns and fits start to occur 520th day: Finally arrives, but lack of clear judgment leads to deadly consequences
Alright, I see the need for some real information to be put here.
This 520 day experiment is the third stage in a project called Mars500, being undertaken by the ESA to simulate the conditions space explorers would be under in the event of an expedition to Mars.
This is the project's homepage on the ESA website.
