So are you saying this is the first time you've ever seen an African American? If you are that's kind of weird if you don't have any in your country.

(THAT WAS NOT MENT TO BE RACIST IN ANY WAY)

And if you're not in the USA, they're more than likely not African Americans

Did you know that in the UK, at least, African American is actually the politically correct term? (that's what I'm told at least)

Yes. Because someone has mentioned the words "African American" apparently someone has to be afraid of being racist. Oh look at what slavery and over-use of the term racism has done to our country *facepalm*.

On his profile his Country isn't in American and the title of the thread says Afro AMERICAN. Don't try to be a smarty pants next time.

Hey the first time I saw a black guy he was an older gentlemen. I turned and asked my mother right in front of him "Mom will I turn black when I get old?" the guy heard me and laughed. My mom shrugged and said maybe.

I hate the term african american. >.>

Not in a racist way either, just the overly political correct way people use it.

What's wrong with calling them black, and calling white people white? Seriously?

Anyways, that's not surprising. There are a lot of places that don't have one or more races. It just happened that you met a black person.

Kind of like where I'm from. There were very few hispanics, and then I move down here where it's total culture shock.

Yeah.

As far as political correctness. Good luck! Seems nowadays, somebody some where is going to find something offensive about the way you say act or do anything. The other day my friend got scolded for referring to a black guy as a colored guy.
You mean you can't call him colored? What about the NAACP otherwise known as the national association for the advancement of colored people.

I don't even understand why it's politically correct over here to call them African Americans, as I would only really consider someone born in Africa and immigrated here an African American, they're just American otherwise.

It's a double standard, you don't call a Hispanic person of Mexican descent a Mexican American, especially when you're born in country...

This is an interesting topic. To be honest I live in a fairly mixed area with all races in a fairly equal balance(except maybe Native Americans of course). For me it was more of a culture shock when I was in one of the cities close to Washington D.C. where the local markets consisted of literally nothing but minorities, mainly Hispanics(as we were literally the only white people there). IDK things like this remind me of the difference between America and many European countries culturally.

Like Petoria. "We're a small and industious people mostly white" As you see I watch too much t.v.
My mom shrugged and said maybe.

*laugh* When my little cousin first saw someone black we were in the middle of Hershey Park and she says real loud "Mommy why are those people brown?" And they all started laughing.
It doesn't surprise me that much. Your European, correct.
