Alright has anyone noticed lately all of the newer games are getting extremely easy to get through no matter what difficulty if you have the hang of the game? All of the newer games have all these handicaps or things are just way too obvious and you barely have to use any mental power where a lot of the older games you had to be as careful as possible just to not die in the process of solving a puzzle or something.
Like for example a game that's been re-made many times. Final Fantasy I. The original game is extremely hard and you have to be careful with what you do and have absolutely no leads where to head exactly and the enemies get really tough and all and the enemies got increasingly stronger to the point where if you didn't do a battle sequence right you're as good as dead.
But the newer versions of the game get easier and easier as I've played them through, The monsters are a lot weaker and much less aggressive and you're characters have bigger stat growths. The hit ratio is much higher killing enemies faster and the exp ratio seems to have decreased to level up your characters. In other words they made the game too easy. Now if anyone has noticed in any of the newer games that if you're the hero of the story you're basically a god in combat skills and stats even compared to your own teammates? Well anyway just a small rant I wanted to throw out there that newer games are getting [b]TOO[/b easy and they should up the difficulty on everything...
I'd definitely agree with you. I much prefer older games. RPGs have been largely affected--as you imply--many monsters are easier, gameplay is far less strategic and a lot of the time I feel the skills you buy don't have to reflect your play-style (or you're not forced to choose abilities based on your role). FPSs have also been hit, rather than requiring the ability to aim, get into cover etc. it's a basic job of get the best gun and run around mindlessly.
I think FPSs and RPGs are the biggest two genres hit and games have certainly become a lot easier/require less skill over time. Maybe it's because a generation of younger aged people are being introduced to games? Kids are now a very large part of the video game market, and developers must target the larger audience. If they feel games need to be dumbed-down for kids to target them that's probably what's happening.
This reminds me of Splinter Cell, how captivating and hard was Chaos Theory,it gave you a little info about the objective and that's all,you had to use your mind,to think and when Conviction came everything was way to easy, big arrows all the time to show you exactly where to go,way too much info about where to go and what to do but the game didn't fail because it had very intense action and a gripping storyline and overall Old games are better but most of the people stopped playing them because the new games have way better graphics and most of the people think Graphics > Gameplay > Story but that doesn't mean new games are bad.
I agree most games have become easier... But I also have the feeling most new games get boring faster. Maybe I got spoiled with some good old games making the new games kind of repetitive/boring.
With good old games I don't mean stuff like Final Fantasy I, because that is long before my time, but I mean the games from the first Playstation and Nintendo 64 generation... Games like Zelda Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 64, Final Fantasy VII, and even the first Pokemon for the gameboy...
When I first played these kind of games, I was truly amazed, and it got me addicted. But when I play a new version of Zelda or Final Fantasy, I still enjoy it, but I don't have the same feeling as I used to, when the games were new to me...
The Super Mario series has certainly become a bit harder. At the same time, the Legend of Zelda has become super easy. But I still enjoy them.
It depends on what game it is. I like Super Mario Galaxy 2 more than Super Mario 64, but I like Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask more than Twilight Princess.
Yea i still have a copy of Sim Theme Park in which you could lose if profits went down too low now i don't see profits paying much of a role because i hardly ever see them go down without my help so the new games seem to be getting handicaps like on COD:MW2 i get hit by a sniper on single player and survive anytime i go to shoot them its them instantly dying so i like old games for their buzz new games for their graphics but overall old ones are better
VanguardM you gotta get over that a bit. Hell me and my friend hook up the N64 and hit up some Zelda Ocarina of Time and Pokemon stadium (old Pokemon rocks, new Pokemon sucks =} )
Old games are better. They may not always be superior in graphics but, when I want to play a good game they almost always win. They have good plots and are challenging which, I like. I am not that old but, I know that I like the Nintendo 64 and Playstation games much better than the new ones for the Xbox or PS 3. They are just far better. I have played some of the Playstation games over, and over again because I like them that much. But then, I play one of the newer games through once and am done with it because, it just isn't like playing the older games. I like a challenge and the older games definitely give me that challenge. Even though I have played some of the old Final Fantasy games almost five times now if, I beat it and go to play again I still sometimes have trouble because they are far more challenging than the new games are. Therefore, OLD GAMES ROCK!
I kinda would have to say new games are better as they have better graphics and gameplay, though I do have to admit they are much easier. However, there are some new games that are pretty difficult as well, such as Demon Soul.
Its hard to find good game this days, and fallout 3 is one of them, its soo good, I got Fallout 1, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics, Fallout 3, Fallout 3: Operation Anchorage, Fallout 3: The Pitt, Fallout 3: Broken Steel, Fallout 3 Point Lookout and Fallout 3: Mothership Zeta...and they are all great!
