Government likes to think it has control, when the media in fact does. They decide who gets elected, censoring people they don't like and propagating those they do.

FOX, CNN, NBC, etc., their all guilty of it.

In Animal Farm, the government uses the media to twist words and manipulate the language to justify everything they do. The media, in its essence, is part of the government. You can't really decide which is more influential.

The government has a limited ability to censor the media, after that point it's mainly the media who controls public opinion. If you want the republican story go watch FOX, if you want to see how the democrats are doing MSNBC's just a couple of clicks over. During the elections, candidates use it to sling mud at each other. In my honest opinion the media might as well run this country.

Not at all. The first amendment prohibits the government from censoring media. Besides, FOX isn't Conservative. The people who run FOX are. If everyone at FOX was suddenly Liberal, then FOX would be Liberal.

That was the point, I was trying to make....FOX isn't a person, it has no political affiliation. Media can be censored if affects the rights of others. Hence the reason you don't see pornography during Primetime.

I've never heard of the right to not watch pornography on public television.

For the most part profanity and nudity are censored on public television by the FCC.

Where does it say that?

My mistake. I assumed that it was censored by the FCC because I've never actually heard about Public television stations showing nudity.

No, no. The stations do that. HBO doesn't censor that stuff.

Since you have to pay for HBO, I don't think it's considered public television.

You have to pay for regular television, too. You're point?

yes, but this is also has negative consequences. biggest example is the Vietnam War. the media swayed the already declining public opinion of the war from bad to worse. sole reason ,freedom of the press. i think there should at least be limits to the press....

The only thing the media did is present facts of the Vietnam War and allowed the people to determine if the Vietnam War was justified, and it wasn't. What is the negative consequence of that?
