What do you guys think about unemployment in the US, do to many people take advantage of it, should the strongest survive, and should other progams like this be tossed? As many know the us is in horrible debt and paying people money because they can't find a job or are poor doesn't seem like a smart thing to do bec. it takes self perciverence away, the drive to work hard and move up in society, if you don't have to do anything and get paid to do nothing then why would you go through the work of actually working?
How so, i am not rich by anymeans, far from it, my father is on unemployment at this moment and is using it to buy us food and pay for our house, but i still think it should be done away with.
well obviously u dont know what it is like. how does an unemployed person survive w/o income? how do they feed their family/self? how would anyone pay/buy anything with money that isnt there???
well they probably made bad decisions to lead them down that road, and even if it isn't thee fault at all the gov. could pay them by creating jobs, not just handing them money for two years.
It's a minimum wage machine that pays you one penny every couple of seconds so that you end up reviving the minimum wage per hour. What's wrong with that? They're working for it right?

Do you realize that it is the companies and the employees that pay into the unemployment system? and welfare? and social security. It isn't free money. It's money the government forced you to set aside and now you get to collect it. The problem with our unemployment is they make it too easy for companies to sidestep paying out, and the government has a great habit of spending our money elsewhere, then racking up debt, and not being able to pay us what was and is supposed to be our money.
ok but how is that kind of work supose to help the USA as a country? That is the same as unemployment, just alot more complivated than it needs to be, why discuise giving money away using a cool contraption?

I agree untierly, but still think that we shouldn't have to pay into those programs in the first place, EXCEPT FOR SOCIAL SECURITY, that one is needed and is earned, but as for the others bec. of our gov. irisponsibility it should never be collected nor distributed, or atleast if it is collected it sohuld be payed out in the form of jobs, so that you would be working the the us gov. as an employe for making roads and all that goos stuff.
It's not giving money away at all. The government earns it's money because we pay them out of taxes and unemployment and social services funds every time we get paid. The government then uses that money for whatever it has in the budget. Some of those funds are to be earmarked to be returned to whomever paid them should that need arise.
You can't "take advantage" of unemployment unless you are falsely filing, or filing multiple claims (which happens from time to time, but is rather rare). The issue is that the government spends more than we pay them so when we need our money back they don't have it and we get the shaft.

unemployment is more of a failsafe than it is giving people money for free. the company has to pay the ex-employee this money until this person can find a job in X amount of time...
Really now? Lets just lay this out, unemployment was created to help people get back on their feet after being unemployed for various reasons, so lets say i become unemployed, now instead of looking for a new job i wait until the two to three years of it are up to even start looking for a job, your telling me thats not taking advantage of it?

Why not? I live a comfortable life, I could afford to give more money up and I many others that could as well. If we don't help each other than we're no better than animals.
